XMPP Council - 2017-11-01

  1. Link Mauve

    It’s about time.

  2. Link Mauve

    daniel, SamWhited, dwd, ping.

  3. Link Mauve

    1) Roll call

  4. Link Mauve

Seems like there is no quorum yet. :(

  5. dwd

    Ah. TZ shift.

  6. SamWhited

    Here but on phone

  7. SamWhited

    And in PST today :)

  8. dwd

This time won't work for me I'm afraid, I have a regular meeting at this time.

  9. Link Mauve

This meeting has always been defined in UTC. :)

  10. Link Mauve

dwd, oh, should we shift it some other place?

  11. Link Mauve

Or maybe leave that decision to the next council?

  12. Kev

Council minutes have always (in the past) been defined in terms of UK time.

  13. Kev

    For this reason :)

  14. Link Mauve

Kev, for the entire term we’ve decided to do UTC.

  15. Link Mauve

But we can choose to postpone it by one hour, it will conflict with board but that might be better, if we are only two.

  16. Kev

That's why I said "in the past".

  17. SamWhited

I'm happy to postpone by one hour

  18. Link Mauve

    Let’s do that then.

  19. SamWhited

I forgot that I have a meeting at the time we rescheduled for. Should be a quick one and I can passively follow in the beginning though.

  20. Link Mauve

    Ok so, let’s start?

  21. Link Mauve

    1) Roll call

  22. Link Mauve

    dwd, SamWhited, daniel.

  23. SamWhited

    partially here

  24. SamWhited

    will be fully here shortly

  25. daniel

    i'm here

  26. Link Mauve

    Great, we have quorum then!

  27. Link Mauve

    2) Minute taker, anyone?

  28. jcbrand

    o/

  29. Link Mauve

    Thanks jcbrand. :)

  30. dwd

    Here, sorry.

  31. Link Mauve

    3) 0146 is still marked as active.

  32. Link Mauve

Should we ping editor to fix that?

  33. Link Mauve

I looked for the meeting in which we voted for it, but couldn’t find it.

  34. jonasw scratches head

  35. SamWhited

It was in a weird place on the editors trello, I moved it to the right column

  36. SamWhited

so it probably just didn't show up

  37. jonasw

    that explains probably

  38. Link Mauve

    Oh.

  39. Link Mauve

    Thanks then.

  40. Link Mauve

    4) The MAM LC has ended, should we do anything about it?

  41. Link Mauve

From what I’ve seen, the main criticism has been the policy section.

  42. Kev

LC has ended already? I meant to respond to that.

  43. Link Mauve

I find the suggestion to move it into a separate informational XEP quite fair, but probably won’t have any time soon to do it myself.

  44. Link Mauve

    Kev, it said the 30th.

  45. Zash

    Me too

  46. jonasw

    extend it?

  47. Link Mauve

(Btw, I find this two weeks period way too short in general.)

  48. SamWhited

Two weeks seems fine as a starting point, but this is a big one, a one week extension (and then we can reconsider again) seems reasonable.

  49. Kev

Nothing says it has to only be 2 week.

  50. Kev

Just that it's never allowed to be less than that.

  51. Kev

    At least IIRC.

  52. Link Mauve

Oh, so when Editor sends the email it can possibly be longer than that already?

  53. jonasw

    I don’t see a reason why not

  54. Kev

It can be as long as 'we' want, I think, yes.

  55. Link Mauve

So, 5) vote on extending the MAM LC of one week.

  56. Link Mauve

    +1

  57. daniel

    make it 2 more weeks

  58. jonasw

give me an end date :)

  59. Link Mauve

I’m also fine with two weeks, still +1.

  60. jonasw

    (2017-11-15 maybe?)

  61. SamWhited

either way seems fine to me; do we expect to get lots more feedback other than kev and zash?

  62. Link Mauve

    (WFM)

  63. jonasw

because "two weeks" is ambiguous: two weeks from now, or two weeks from the original end?

  64. daniel

SamWhited, it is a widely deployed XEP. we can *hope* for more feedback

  65. daniel

    +1 for november 15th

  66. Link Mauve

    dwd, ^

  67. SamWhited

    WFM +1

  68. Link Mauve

Alright, I’ll assume the other two will vote on list.

  69. Link Mauve

    6) AOB?

  70. jonasw

at least two other last calls ended

  71. SamWhited

Do we even need a full vote to extend a LC? That just seems like something the editor can do

  72. Link Mauve

jonasw, oh, I missed them too then. :x

  73. jonasw

    XEP-0286 and XEP-0352, oh and XEP-0387

  74. jonasw

although I note that XEP-0286 has an invalid end date

  75. jonasw

    it should’ve been 2017-11-03

  76. jonasw

    so that hasn’t ended yet

  77. SamWhited

    Shall we vote on those?

  78. Link Mauve

Two of these have had exactly no feedback. :/

  79. Kev

"If necessary, the XMPP Extensions Editor may, at his discretion and in consultation with the Approving Body, extend the Last Call or issue a new Last Call if the XEP requires further discussion. "

  80. Link Mauve

These three have had exactly no feedback during LC. :/

  81. Link Mauve

Great, so Editor, consider having had our agreement.

  82. dwd

I'll send some feedback on all of these anyway, so we might generate a discussion then.

  83. jonasw

Link Mauve, k, will do that soon

  84. SamWhited

Let's let the editor extend those too then

  85. Link Mauve

    Seems sensible.

  86. dwd

And yes, extend all the LCs.

  87. jonasw

    all to 2017-11-15?

  88. Link Mauve

    Seems fine.

  89. SamWhited

    sure

  90. Link Mauve

    6-bis) AOB?

  91. Link Mauve

I’ll take that as a no.

  92. Link Mauve

    7) Date of next

  93. Link Mauve

2017-11-08T15:00:00Z as it’s been for the past year?

  94. Link Mauve

Hmm no, we should move one hour later to accomodate dwd, 16:00Z?

  95. dwd

Well, it would place it at the same local time it's been for most of the year for everyone.

  96. SamWhited

I have a meeting at that time, but it's normally just a quick standup so that WFM

  97. dwd

    SamWhited, Which time?

  98. Link Mauve

dwd, all of my meetings got moved one hour earlier this week, so I assumed it was the case for everyone else.

  99. Link Mauve

Ok, so 16:00Z next week, as it has been somewhat fine for almost one year.

  100. Link Mauve bangs the gravel

  101. Link Mauve bangs the gravel.

  102. Link Mauve

    Thanks everyone!

  103. jcbrand

BTW, I don't have access to the editors trello board. jonasw: could you help?

  104. jonasw

jcbrand, I’m not sure. Your trello name is? ( SamWhited or Kev should definitely be able to help)

  105. jcbrand

    jcbrand

  106. SamWhited

jcbrand: added you, sorry, I thought I got both of you

  107. jcbrand

    Thanks SamWhited :)

  108. SamWhited

I do not have the power to add you to the XSF team though; not sure if it matters.

  109. jonasw

    2017-11-15 wasn’t a clever choice.

  110. jonasw

it’s the day of the council meeting

  111. jcbrand

    oops

  112. jonasw

but we could define "close of business" as "beginning of the council meeting" and call it a day :)

  113. jcbrand

    sounds reasonable

  114. jonasw

council may clarify that on-list as appropriate, I’m just gonna write "until 2017-11-15" in the emails, leaving it vague.

  115. SamWhited

yah, doesn't matter all that much

  116. SamWhited

    We can make it work.

  117. jonasw

sent the emails, the XEPs themselves should update soon-ish
