XMPP Council - 2019-10-23

  1. dwd

Afternoon, all. Unfortunately I need to nip out to pick up my daughter from school, so I'll certainly miss at least the beginning of the meeting. Meanwhile, I'm +1 on LCing CS 2020.

  2. jonas’

I’m desperately trying to get the LC started before the meeting, not sure if I’ll maek it

  3. jonas’

    probably not

  4. Ge0rG

jonas’: you've got all the votes in now.

  5. jonas’

Ge0rG, yes, now I just need to build the docker image in less than 10 seconds

  6. jonas’

    unlikely ;)

  7. Kev

I'm on a train just passing Newport, so I'm only semi-here (which is more than I thought I'd be)

  8. jonas’

    nope, still running

  9. Ge0rG

jonas’: technically, you just need to start it 14d in advance to the +2W meeting.

  10. jonas’

Ge0rG, which is already impossible because of DST

  11. Kev

Doesn't have to be 14D long.

  12. jonas’

    Kev, but at least?

  13. jonas’

    > The Last Call shall expire not less than fourteen (14) days after the date of issue.

  14. Kev

    That's true, yes.

  15. Ge0rG

jonas’: in that case we won't make it anyway, because it's 14d after today.

  16. jonas’

    Ge0rG, yeah

  17. Kev

I really don't see this as a problem if we give votes on-list, and they come in after the LC ends.

  18. Ge0rG

Looks like we have 2.5 Council members. Let's try a Council Meeting?

  19. jonas’

in an unrelated matter, who’s chairing?

  20. jonas’

    is Link Mauve here?

  21. Ge0rG

    I can try.

  22. Ge0rG

    1) Roll Call

  23. jonas’ is here

  24. Kev

    Here (for the moment)

  25. Ge0rG

So we have a momentary quorum. Great.

  26. Ge0rG

    2) Agenda Bashing

  27. Ge0rG

    Link Mauve proposed https://github.com/xsf/xeps/pull/829

  28. Kev

    It's Editorial, doesn't need Council.

  29. jonas’

    is it?

  30. Kev

    It's fixing a typo.

  31. jonas’

sometimes the line between typo and non-typo are blurry; when it changes the schema, I like to double-checvk

  32. Kev

And the version bump in it as an editorial version bump.

  33. jonas’

luckily, Kev is also an editor, so I can just believe his word as a senior team member and change this from Needs Council to Editorial

  34. Ge0rG

I tend to agree that it's editorial

  35. Kev

Anyway, +1 or no vote needed, as appropriate.

  36. Kev

As long as the Editor merging it checks that the assertion that unsignedInteger was invalid, an dunsignedInt is what it should be is true :)

  37. Kev

(Although I guess if Editors are ever concerned whether something is editorial or not, asking Council is preferable to having Council object subsequently)

  38. Kev

But I think Editors have asked if this is editorial, and Council have replied :)

  39. jonas’

    yeah, it’s settled IMO

  40. Ge0rG

People brought up some forgotten XEPs to the list.

  41. jonas’

The Editor has marked it as Editorial Change already :)

  42. Ge0rG

Other than that, I'm not aware of any topics for today.

  43. jonas’

    me neither

  44. jonas’

but it has, again, be a bit chaotic here, so I’ve missed most of what’s been going on

  45. Kev

(As an aside, the clocks are going back, rather than forward, so the LC went out with most of an hour to spare, even if someone wanted to be exceptionally (and wrongly, I think) pedantic).

  46. Ge0rG

I have an AOB as well, but it's probably better put as part of the LC discussion: Should 0392 be part of CS?

  47. Kev

I wouldn't, personally. Not at the moment.

  48. Zash

Should 0392 even be Standards Track?

  49. Kev

    Future direction seems reasonable, though.

  50. Kev

    Zash: Arguable.

  51. Ge0rG

Zash: that's an excellent separate AOB: how do we move a Standards Track XEP into Informational?

  52. jonas’

    ask board

  53. Kev

    Why Board?

  54. jonas’

they have the power over '0001

  55. jonas’

which does not describe this transition, so they have to make a ruling, don’t hey?

  56. jonas’

which does not describe this transition, so they have to make a ruling, don’t they?

  57. Ge0rG

It looks like we don't have anything to vote on today, anyway.

  58. Kev

jonas’: I don't see why. I think we just change tracks and that's that.

  59. Ge0rG

Kev: is that something we need to vote on?

  60. jonas’

in any case, I’d say that’s a problem for future council

  61. Kev

Ge0rG: I think just giving a nod would be sufficient, unless 392 is Draft.

  62. Ge0rG

technically, Editor is allowed to change tracks upon submission.

  63. Ge0rG

so it shouldn't be too hard afterwards, either.

  64. Kev

I suggest we close now, before we lose quorum.

  65. Kev

    Which is moments away.

  66. Ge0rG

    Alright.

  67. jonas’

    sgtm

  68. jonas’

    Date of next?

  69. jonas’

    following DST in Europe?

  70. Kev

    WFM

  71. Ge0rG

    Perfect.

  72. Kev

    No AOB from me.

  73. Ge0rG

    None here either.

  74. jonas’

    \o/

  75. Ge0rG

    Cast your votes, everyone!

  76. jonas’

    thanks, Ge0rG and everyone

  77. jonas’

in unrelated news, the LC on CS-2020 has started

  78. Ge0rG

    3) End Of Stream

  79. Kev

    thanks. *gone*

  80. Ge0rG

    jonas’: thanks very much!

  81. Link Mauve

Oops sorry, I was having guests. >_<

  82. Ge0rG

    Link Mauve: how dare you?
