now considering blacklisting the server

I'm trying to contact the admin

Are there open source spambots?

I mean to check if a webpage or form is safe against spambots?

Or at least pretty safe...

is it possible that opening a pipe to /dev/urandom ever fails?

Some jail and container things are without /dev/urandom

Zash, not the case but io.popen still failed somehow.

popen() can fail of course, e.g. if you hit the resource limit on the number of open FDs or whatever.
