Hi there. Using 'standard' xmpp clients like gajim, pidgin and so on, is there any possibility to create a decent user experience for a bot use case where for instance the user is shown a list of options (maybe like those fancy 'quick reply' buttons or even inline keyboards in telegram), or maybe even a form? Been looking at ad-hoc commands and forms XEP's but they just don't seem to be oriented to this kind of interaction. They seem more like offering support to custom clients for performing very specific tasks, probably outside the context of a particular chat. XEP-0336 seems to try to go that way but guess we can't expect any progress from it in the short or mid term.

I'm thinking maybe XMPP just isn't the right choice in the first place for this kind of interactions

There has been a proposal for quick-reply buttons

I'm thinking maybe XMPP just isn't the right choice in the first place for this kind of interactions, unless you roll your own client which is ruled out in this case

it has not been accepted, mind

Oh, I see. Thanks a lot, don't know how I didn't find that before. Such a pity 😕

note that none of the clients you mentioned support that

Yeah guess you'd need to build your own client and go with custom payloads or the likes. Closest I got to showing a form with the ones I tried was with Gajim they have a "send command" option with which clients can send custom discovered adhoc commands. Not even remotely close to an acceptable solution in this use case anyway.
