XMPP Summit - 2019-02-03

  1. debacle

Tobias, did you say "True" twice? Because I see it twice in Gajim. With four seconds distance.

  2. MattJ

    He said it once

  3. Zash

Looks like once in the log: http://logs.xmpp.org/summit/2019-02-02/#22:47:33

  4. debacle

    XMPP is borked.

  5. debacle

I see his true at 22:47:33, but also four seconds before, 22:47:29. Can Gajim look into the future? But only four seconds?

  6. debacle should become an XMPP based stock broker. In four seconds to wealth.

  8. MattJ

debacle: This room doesn't have MAM (yet), and the alternative is to hack it with timestamps, which sometimes causes duplicates to be shown

  9. Zash

    Or message ids

  10. melvo

    > debacle: This room doesn't have MAM (yet), and the alternative is to hack it with timestamps, which sometimes causes duplicates to be shown Do you know the reason for not using MAM here?

  11. Zash

Becasue nobody gave me admin access so I could update Prosody to features from this decade

  12. Tobias

ralphm: I wonder if epics XMPP problems are just due to implementation issues or whether there are possible protocol changes to XMPP, that could improve things for them

  13. ralphm

Maybe, but I mostly liked the fact that they've written better copy to promote XMPP than we have, in a post-mortem

  14. Tobias

    Ahh

  15. Zash

    Haha

  16. Alex

    > Becasue nobody gave me admin access so I could update Prosody to features from this decade how can we make this happen?

  17. mathieui

Alex: MattJ plans to upgrade xmpp.org soon-ish

  18. MattJ

    Yeeeeah

  19. MattJ

I was going to do it today but I don't think I will

  20. MattJ

Internet is super slow, and e.g. this room will go down

  21. MattJ

Feels like the worst possible time to do it :)

  22. MattJ

    Maybe next weekend or something

  23. ralphm

I suggest picking a date that doesn't coincide with Council, Board meetings, announce it, and then just do it.

  24. mathieui

pep., donโ€™t forget to speak loud because even though there are microphones, they are only for recording

  25. pep.

    *no pressure*

  26. mathieui

    no pressure at all

  27. mathieui

I can clap at the end of each sentence if you want

  28. mathieui

(seriously though, the sound in this room is quite bad)

  29. mathieui

everything is lost if someone opens the door or pulls a tablet

  30. melvo

    > Yeeeeah > I was going to do it today but I don't think I will > Internet is super slow, and e.g. this room will go down > Feels like the worst possible time to do it :) > Maybe next weekend or something Thanks.

  31. vanitasvitae

Good bye and thanks to everyone who was at the summit! I hope you'll all get home safe.

  32. alameyo

    does anyone missing a bag?

  33. Guus

    > Good bye and thanks to everyone who was at the summit! > I hope you'll all get home safe. Likewise!

  34. Guus

I am already battling cancelled trains. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

  35. jonasโ€™

    oh dear

  36. Guus

    Found an alternative.

  37. Zash

Snow chaosbin Sweden apparently, nodes well for the flight home

  38. Zash

    SNOW CHAOS!!!

  39. mathieui

    Mine is not cancelled yet

  40. MattJ

    Pizza ๐Ÿ•

  41. Zash

    Time?

  42. MattJ

We just arrived, but the Cisco delegation are not here just yet

  43. Zash

    At the place?

  44. MattJ

    Yes

  45. ralphm

    We're there at 18:52.

  46. MattJ

    Ack ๐Ÿ‘

  47. Zash

I'm going to rest a bit and then decide where to eat

  48. Zash

Seems to take a few minutes by bus to get there. Why have I been walking everywhere?

  49. MattJ

You can blame me if you want

  50. Zash

Also tram line straight from outside this hotel to ULB and I walked through the rain and snow

  52. Link Mauve

โ€œ16:09:35 mathieui> They did say that they did not want to run an xmpp server 16:10:49 mathieui> but then they apparently considered writing a matrix server for some reason, since a matrix developer had to advise against thatโ€, IIRC from talking with NextCloud people, they wanted to NIH absolutely everything that wasnโ€™t already written in PHP.

  53. Link Mauve

    Except for LibreOffice it seems.

  54. flow

It was again very nice to meet you all. Especially thanks to the ppl running the booth and to everyone did a talk.

  55. Syndace

Yes it was an amazing first Summit + FOSDEM, thank you all!

  56. Zash

    ๐Ÿ‘

  57. Alex

    ๐Ÿ‘

  58. Link Mauve

    Yup, thanks all!

  59. debacle

Link Mauve, let's write an XMPP server in PHP. Someone. Not me.

  60. mathieui

    ๐Ÿ‘

  61. debacle

I didn't make it to the talk about Matrix over an 100 bit/s channel, but I've been told, that it was very good. Reminds me of XEP-0365. Is that in use?

  62. alameyo

they did use Constrained Application Protocol rfc7252 and changed TLS to Noise encryption protocol, I don't know yet xep365 so I can't compare

  63. debacle

    interesting!

  64. melvo

Thanks for all the interesting discussions.
