XSF Discussion - 2017-02-26

  1. Guus

ralphm, kev, others. What is the last thought on that 'getting started' stuff (strict neutrality policy)?

  2. Guus

I'm inclined to merge https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/pull/246 and have people improve upon that. Perhaps that triggers some movement on the issue.

  3. Guus

intosi, alex, Tobias, nyco (wiki sysops?): Could you please install the Cite extension to mediawiki (or point me to someone that can)? Should be as easy as downloading one file, and have a one-line modification in another: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Cite#Installation

  4. nyco

Sure, good idea, who will do it?

  5. Guus

I don't have access to that machine. You're listed as a sysop, so I'm hoping you have.

  6. Guus

While at it, we might want to revisit the menu bar on the left site. A lot of the links point to pages that are either empty, or completely unmaintained (eg: council's radar). We should remove those links, if it's not to much trouble.

  7. Guus

again, I don't have the power (captain).

  8. Ge0rG

Meh, this might be a real showstopper for carbonation of body-less 'normal' messages: https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0047.html#message

  9. jonasw

re carbons: like someone said a few days ago, what we actually need is a distinguisher between "meant for a specific client" and "meant for an account"

  10. Ge0rG

jonasw: 0184 are obviously ment to a specific client, but it's good to carbon-copy them nevertheless

  11. jonasw

Ge0rG: they are not, I think

  12. jonasw

they are meant for a *user*.

  13. Ge0rG

jonasw: maybe we are trying to reinterpret them in that way

  14. Guus

I've grown impatient and merged https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/pull/246 (the 'getting started' page). People that disagree will have to take action.

  15. moparisthebest

Good move Guus taking action seems to be the hardest part :-)

  16. Guus

    moparisthebest: it really is not.

  17. moparisthebest

It seems like it is though

  19. Neustradamus

Guus: xmpp:... on the wiki for example

  20. Guus

Neustradamus: that is not an answer to my question.

  21. Neustradamus

    Guus: about the wiki?

  22. Neustradamus

I have requested some years ago...

  23. Guus

    Neustradamus: nevermind.

  24. Neustradamus

Maybe there will be an update soon, the problem will be resolved in part :)

  25. Guus

    Why do you say that?

  26. Guus

Why would there be an update?

  27. Neustradamus

    XMPP URI

  28. Neustradamus

    https://wiki.xmpp.org/web/XMPP_URIs

  29. Neustradamus

MediaWiki has added XMPP URI in code (not all, no image) after some requests but the XMPP Wiki has not a "last version"...

  30. Guus

Neustradamus: I never asked about the xmpp uri scheme. This is something that you brought up.

  31. Neustradamus

You speak about the wiki, I speak about the wiki too

  32. Guus

Neustradamus: no, I am asking for one very specific feature to be added to the wiki. You attempt to hijack my effort by talking about something that *you* asked for instead. Apart from that they both relate to the wiki, they have nothing in common.

  33. Neustradamus

I have previously requested plugins adding too.

  34. Neustradamus

I always do things to make things happen, even if it's impossible to move Openfire things, a lot of bugs exists for years ^^

  35. Guus

Neustradamus: you are not helping. You are being disruptive, and have no eye for anything else but what you, rightfully or not, think is important. The Openfire developers have, time and time again, tried to explain to you why some things in Openfire will *not* be modified as you suggest- but you either do not understand, do not agree, or do not listen at all. You do continue to pester people about it though, which is why go got banned, repeatedly, in the Ignite Realtime community. But do keep up the good work!

  36. jonasw

uhm; maybe you want to discuss that elsewhere?

  37. Neustradamus

For other guys who do not know, there are a lot of bugs in Openfire, one here: https://issues.igniterealtime.org/browse/OF-81 This bug has been opened by Guenther Niess, 11/16/09 04:03 PM Soon 8 years :) One day users, devs will be happy https://github.com/igniterealtime/Openfire/pull/405

  38. Guus

    sorry jonasw, you're right.

  39. Neustradamus

Impossible to speak on the open_chat muc room badly, but I have a lot of users/devs returns, you can see the history of the bug, the original fix version : 3.6.5, today Openfire is 4.1.3 without...
