pep.: anyone can make a pr, it's the editors job to ensure that it's okay to merfe

  2. jonasw

    *merge

  3. marmistrz

Do you guys plan releasing some guide how to live with GDPR when hosting an XMPP server? I don't host one but if I did, I'd be confused, especially after hearing all these "GDPR harms XMPP hosts and centralizes the web" opinions.

  4. Link Mauve

marmistrz, these are dumb, don’t listen to them.

  5. Link Mauve

    Also see https://wiki.xmpp.org/web/GDPR

  6. marmistrz

So basically this wiki page will be eventually transformed into "all you should know about GDPR"

  7. marmistrz

    ?

  8. Link Mauve

    Probably.

  9. Link Mauve

You can also come to the GDPR meetings, in this room, at 11:00Z every Friday.

  10. pep.

    hmm not every friday no

  11. pep.

next is Tue 10:30 CEST, let me see if the page is updated

  12. Link Mauve

    Oh.

  13. pep.

But anyway it's never the same

  14. Link Mauve

    Ack.

  15. marmistrz

What was that Z in 11:00Z?

  16. Zash

    Zulu

  17. pep.

    means UTC

  18. Zash

    Aka the zero timezone

  19. Zash

    While GMT+1 is #1 ! :P

  20. pep.

    Not 10:30 CEST, 1030Z, I failed

  21. pep.

    12:30 CEST.

  22. Link Mauve

Zash, please never use GMT as a base timezone. :(

  23. Link Mauve

It doesn’t exist all year long.

  24. Zash

    Let's revive .Beat

  25. marmistrz

    I've always thought UTC=GMT

  26. Link Mauve

    marmistrz, it is, during winter.

  27. Link Mauve

But one is a base timezone, the other one is UK and Portugal’s timezone.

  28. Link Mauve

But one is a base timezone, the other one is UK and Portugal’s timezone during winter.

  29. Zash

    TAI tho

  30. pep.

    Link Mauve, hmm, you sure?

  31. Link Mauve

But one is a base timezone, the other one is UK and Portugal’s timezone during winter (and maybe a few other ones).

  32. Link Mauve

    pep., yes.

  33. marmistrz

    UTC base, GMT UK+Port, right?

  34. pep.

GMT is GMT, during summer UK is BST not GMT

  35. Link Mauve

    pep., that’s what I said.

  36. Link Mauve

    marmistrz, correct.

  37. pep.

    But it doesn't change

  38. pep.

    does it

  39. Link Mauve

    pep., no, it stops existing.

  40. pep.

    Right, nobody uses it

  41. pep.

    But it still equals UTC

  42. Link Mauve

    Only during winter.

  43. pep.

    It doesn't "stop existing"

  44. Link Mauve

It stops being used, so you can’t use it as a base anymore.

  45. Link Mauve

Tl;dr: always use UTC as a reference point.

  46. pep.

That's not what I'm picking on

  47. pep.

    GMT still equals UTC

  48. Link Mauve

TIL, GMT equals to UT1, not UTC.

  49. pep.

    interesting
