  100. purplebeetroot You saw this response from Chelsea Manning to signal? "end-to-end encryption without a self healing mesh network is prone to a single point of failure in functionality during crises, causing a cascade of secure communications to grind to a halt and force folks to use less secure alternatives" https://mobile.twitter.com/xychelsea/status/1350190083027193862 Often when people promote Signal, they refer to Edward Snowden who's heavily promoting it. Refering back to Chelsea Manning, when explaining why XMPP matters, can be a usefull strategy against this attitute: but this security expert said we can trust in it. Then you can reply with: yes, and this expert said you should not, and this are her arguments.

  116. pep. Martin, errors happen :/
  117. pep. And I don't think it was her logs but those of her recipients or sth(?)
  118. pep. Don't quote me on that
  119. Licaon_Kter purplebeetroot: Snowden says _"I use Signal and I'm still alive"_ While history says _"Snowden is alive because he used XMPP in 2013"_
  120. pep. I doubt it's in anybody's interest now to kill Snowden anyway :x

  163. Licaon_Kter using the word "messenger" as... > In contrast to the current situation where other people suggest you use their preferred messenger in the XMPP universe you have a free choice of many messengers – pick whichever one you like, not what others like until the next internet fad. The difference is that, regardless of your messaging app or which app your friends use, you still have the comfort of being on the same network with all of your contacts, independent of your choice today. I think this is a real solution.

  166. emus 1. hmm, I think for most people it means messenger (but for ud can also mean system) 2. yes 3. hmm its a bit general: within xmpp you can choose a client until the next fad, can also be about others

  168. emus 4. yes 5. Id also say yes 6. yes
  169. Licaon_Kter the actual word is used all over, of course, so I had to interpret this as best as I could to explain 🙂
  170. purplebeetroot > Wasn't she convicted due to cleartext logs? Because she got reported through Lamo, whom she shared personal information in a moment of personal crisis.
