  1. Sam Whited

I feel like I've asked this before, but for people who aren't in this room how do they submit stuff to the newsletter? I couldn't remember so I went to the website and an old newsletter and don't see it mentioned

  2. Sam Whited

Maybe we can include a link at the bottom of the newsletter each week and on the newsletter page of the website?

  3. Licaon_Kter

    Sam Whited: see room subject/title

  4. Licaon_Kter

    emus: is that pad actual?

  5. Sam Whited

I can't see the room subject or title

  6. Sam Whited

I mean, there might be a way, but I have no idea how to do that in this client

  7. Licaon_Kter

    https://yopad.eu/p/xmpp-newsletter-365days

  8. Sam Whited

oh wait, I see it in the bottom bar, but it cuts off (presumably right before the url, it ends in "here"

  9. Licaon_Kter

    Which client?

  10. Sam Whited

    McAbber

  11. Licaon_Kter

Oh, better create an issue :))

  12. Sam Whited

It's pretty much abandonware as far as I can tell, there's no point

  13. Sam Whited

    Although I'm also sure there's a way, I just don't know it.

  14. Sam Whited

So the answer is we have a pad, which is good: can we link that on the webpage/in the newsletter?

  15. Sam Whited

Not everyone will be in this room

  16. Sam Whited

Although I guess this changes every month, so maybe that would be annoying. Maybe we could make a submission form or something? It's hard to figure out how to submit right now.

  17. Licaon_Kter

The last newsletter has this info at the end

  18. Licaon_Kter

And the previous one had it too...

  19. wurstsalat

Sam Whited, the pad is the current one (and will be cleared at submission deadline)

  20. Sam Whited

hmm, I swear I just looked at the last one

  21. wurstsalat

everything from the pad then goes to a github PR

  22. wurstsalat

emus, is there a PR yet? :)

  23. Sam Whited

    I still don't see it

  24. Licaon_Kter

    Scroll down...

  25. Sam Whited

oh weird, no, there it is, somehow it stopped scrolling before then

  26. Licaon_Kter

    "Help us blah blah"

  27. Sam Whited

I have a stupid request then, can it include the word "submission" or "submissions?" I know that sounds dumb, but reading this it still sounds like helping put the newsletter together instead of me just submitting a single link

  28. Sam Whited

Also if we could do the same and link it from https://xmpp.org/newsletter.html it would probably be helpful

  29. wurstsalat

    Sam Whited, good ideas!

  30. Martin

    > It's pretty much abandonware as far as I can tell, there's no point > Although I'm also sure there's a way, I just don't know it. Maybe Holger knows

  31. Licaon_Kter

We had a news with a release last year :)

  32. Sam Whited

Oh, fair, I only say that because I've had the same weird race condition where rooms won't re-join for years and it never got fixed, maybe other stuff is being looked at

  33. Licaon_Kter

Poezio and Profanity not good enough yet?

  34. Sam Whited

I don't especially care for their UI

  35. Sam Whited

Just personal preference; the vertical sidebar makes it a lot easier to scroll through a large roster and I'm willing to give up nice modern features like MAM (though also I desperately want that) for vim keybindings

  36. Sam Whited

I prefer the vertical roster in the sidebar and vim keybindings

  37. emus

wurstsalat: No, will try by tonight - sorry everyone ☺ Had some harsh weeks 😩 Sam Whited: Actually Im wondering. We link a lot. The only thing you were right that the new draft is not online yet. There are three ways to contribute: - drop it here in MUC - drop it in the pad https://yopad.eu/p/xmpp-newsletter-365days (we just erase the old content to keep the same link) - make a PR (yes, not open yet) It will usually appear here, if you want to keep a consistent link: https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/milestone/3 Of course, we highly appreciate if one preformulates something. If you can cross check the general formulations in the newsletter from a native perspective we also would be very happy!

  38. Sam Whited

oops, that was weird, don't know where that second message came from. I think that was another mcabber bug.

  39. emus

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  40. emus

Mcabber - Im happy we have many clients but I wonder why people use it exactly?

  41. emus

Sam Whited: I will add the pad to the website aswell

  42. Sam Whited

emus: maybe just change that first sentence to "Submissions may be made to [this pad], or the current issue in the [XSF GitHub repository]" and add that same thing to the website?

  43. Sam Whited

    Thanks!

  44. emus

    yes

  45. DebXWoody

I started to implement vim as message editor for profanity 😁

  46. emus

The draft PR is finally open for commits! https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/pull/894
