XSF Communications Team - 2021-04-05

  1. Sam

It's that time again, can anyone put a post on the twitter/mastodon about the office hours tomorrow?

  2. Sam

"Cryptographic Identity: Conquering the Fingerprint Chaos" by Paul Schaub (vanitasvitae) on Tuesday, 6 April 16:00 UTC

  3. Sam

    You can copy/boost https://fosstodon.org/@mellium/106012906296267698 if that's easier

  4. emus (XSF Com. Team)

Will try after I pushed the newsletter

  5. emus (XSF Com. Team)

anyone to review. One additonal review would be great

  6. Sam

oh geeze, I meant to review that last night. Sorry. Oh well, got to get to work now.

  7. emus (XSF Com. Team)

    Okay, that would be great!

  8. vanitasvitae

let me review it quickly πŸ™‚

  9. Sam

I don't know what the "/featured" is at the end of the YouTube link, but I think that can be removed.

  10. Sam

vanitasvitae: oh hey, you're here. If you have slides for tomorrow can you send them to me as a PDF to upload to BBB (if possible or if you want to do it that way)?

  11. vanitasvitae

I have some, but they are not yet final

  12. Sam

Also are you okay with me recording the presentation tomorrow and pushing it up as CC-BY for others to see later?

  13. vanitasvitae

I will do some more work on them and then put them up somewhere πŸ˜›

  14. vanitasvitae

I have not yet thought about the recording

  15. Sam

No rush; thanks. If you need anything else before tomorrow let me know and I'll see what I can do.

  16. vanitasvitae

Tbh. my presentation is more of a discussion starter, so I'm not really sure if it makes sense to record it

  17. Sam

We can always do so and then if it seems useful put it somewhere or if not delete it afterwards, if you're okay with that.

  18. Sam

    But whatever you're comfortable with.

  19. vanitasvitae

    okay, sounds good

  20. emus (XSF Com. Team)

    > I don't know what the "/featured" is at the end of the YouTube link, but I think that can be removed. Can you try an alternative "normal" URL?

  21. Sam

Removing /featured works. It doesn't matter though, it seems to work either way. I have no idea what the /featured is.

  22. Sam

TOR is "Tor", it's not an acronym.

  23. Sam

The acronym came later, but the actual thing is just a word.

  24. emus (XSF Com. Team)

    hmm maybe indicator of channel

  25. Sam

Other than the s/TOR/Tor/ and the two youtube links it LGTM

  26. vanitasvitae

I like the description of the different XEP states πŸ™‚

  27. Sam

Yah, that's super helpful for me as well. I wish we had a tool like the IETF has to track them, but this works as well for me.

  28. vanitasvitae

I only have a minor nit to pick. The qXMPPconsole link is lacking a description of why it is included in the newsletter

  29. emus (XSF Com. Team)

It got posted and is a reference to this project

  30. emus (XSF Com. Team)

    as a "new" project

  31. emus (XSF Com. Team)

    "news reason" enough, or not?

  32. vanitasvitae

I'd change the line to something like "qXMPPconsole is a new [browser based XMPP console](https://github.com/voger/qXMPPconsole). It's main purpose is to aid in learning about the XMPP protocol."

  33. emus (XSF Com. Team)

    ok thanks

  34. vanitasvitae

    Shall I create a PR?

  35. emus (XSF Com. Team)

    that were all remarks?

  36. vanitasvitae

    from my side, yes πŸ™‚

  37. emus (XSF Com. Team)

No I can just do it for you if you prefer

  38. vanitasvitae

    okay πŸ™‚

  39. vanitasvitae

Thank you for your service, sir πŸ˜›

  40. emus (XSF Com. Team)

    Hehe

  41. emus (XSF Com. Team)

    Sam, anything else to admit?

  42. Sam

emus (XSF Com. Team): nope, looks good to me!

  43. emus (XSF Com. Team)

    🀩️

  44. Sam

Okay, office hours check list is complete I think. Nothing else to do until tomorrow :)

  45. Sam

Not for actual $DAY_JOB before they get mad at me.

  46. emus (XSF Com. Team)

  48. Sam

Wow, that's a cool visualization. I've only had the first dose, I can't wait to go back at the end of the month for my second one. I've never been excited about getting a shot before I don't think!

  49. peetah

emus: I can't access the github repo for now, but if you used the same thank list in the news lettter, please remove Pierre Maziere as it is an alias for peetah , or the converse ;)

  50. peetah

And, anyway, I really don't remember having participate to this month newsletter

  51. emus (XSF Com. Team)

    but the last one?

  52. emus (XSF Com. Team)

ah now you are double in there ☺️

  53. peetah

Honestly, I don't remember: it's been a while since I contributed outside of the French translation

  54. emus (XSF Com. Team)

ah okay, but I saw your name in the post

  55. peetah

    What post ?

  56. peetah

To be clear: I do the French translation, but I did not participate to the English newsletter in a while

  57. emus (XSF Com. Team)

Yes, I understand, but I count this as support of the Newsletter - but if you don't want to be named there I can remove it

  58. peetah

no it's fine as it is, just use pmaziere please as in previous newsletters

  59. peetah

and thanks for the great work you and others have been doing since more than a year now !

  60. emus (XSF Com. Team)

    ok

  61. emus (XSF Com. Team)

    Thanks! Appreciated you like it!

  62. nicola

Thanks for sharing the resource https://timetoherd.com/ Interesting

  63. Licaon_Kter

Thanks for the reviews, I lost track of this

  64. vanitasvitae

holy moly, Belarus has > 5000 days until herd immunity is reached :O

  65. vanitasvitae

    woah, Peru > 14.000

  66. Licaon_Kter

Sam: the office hours don't have a fixed weekday?

  67. Sam

Licaon_Kter: they're moving to Tuesday at 16:00 UTC, but we may change it around if a presenter can't make it on that day/time

  68. Licaon_Kter

    πŸ‘

  69. vanitasvitae

Sam: I added slides to the schedule table :)

  70. Sam

vanitasvitae: thanks! I'll make sure they get uploaded to the meeting room!

  71. Sam

hmm, I say that, apaprently there's no way to download from this thing? It looks like it's just embedding the PDF with firefox's thing, but there's no download button and save-as saves HTML.

  72. Sam

Oh, or there's a download button in this header that just blends in. Nevermind.

  73. Sam

    I hate iframes.

  80. emus (XSF Com. Team)

    sure

  81. Jeybe

    Nice!

  82. Jeybe

Think the unsorted list got messed up in the build: > Marek Foss from ProcessOne wrote several articles on ejabberd background and setups: - Starting with MQTT protocol and ejabberd MQTT broker - Install and configure MariaDB with ejabberd - Getting started with WebSocket API in ejabberd - Publish-Subscribe pattern and PubSub in ejabberd

  83. emus (XSF Com. Team)

Thanks, I pushed a fix that hopefully works

  84. Jeybe

First draft of the german translation for this months newsletter, if one wants to take a look: https://codeberg.org/Anoxinon_e.V./anoxinon-web-main/pulls/53 If the RAW file isn't enough, branch can simply be built with Hugo
