emus (XSF Com. Team)Some ads for another project Im working on:
Edward and Melvin will present an approach to provide curated lists of XMPP servers based on specific hard and soft criteria. This project should improve the onboarding of newcomers to XMPP clients and XMPP network. Clients can implement the list and provide suggestions to the user, also based on the criteria or requirements provided. You are invited to take a look at the project repository here: https://invent.kde.org/melvo/xmpp-providers
Yes, the talk will be held in English!
When? Wednesday, 2021-06-09 18:00 CEST (always 2ⁿᵈ Wednesday of every month)
Where? Online, via https://meet.in-berlin.de/CuratedServerList-XMPP_Providers
See you then!
Martinemus (XSF Com. Team): As far as I can see 0157 is no criteria? I think it should be. Servers without contact can't be reached if they send spam and might therefore end up on a blocklist.
MartinSo I'd only recommend servers with a 0157 contact that will take actions on abuse reports. (yeah, soft and hard criteria :D).
emus (XSF Com. Team)Thanks, can you bring that up tomorrow? Well, unfortunately Im more coming from the soft criteria side than evaluating on XEPs in detail. But it seems to be a good measure.
Just keep in mind when talking about new measurs that the list is less about evaluating the servers in general, but in particular for XMPP newcomers
MartinYeah, but you don't want a newcomer to register on a server which will be cut off from large parts of the ecosystem due to no admin reacting to abuse reports and ending up on blocklists. So I consider this also important for newcomers. You don't want them to end up on a bad server. I hope I'll find time tomorrow then I'll listen to your presentation and put my question in the pad. 😃
emus (XSF Com. Team)Sure, just saying. Adding server needs to confirm to have test requests to admins
emus (XSF Com. Team)Great - there is a pad? 😃
MartinAfair the last time I attended they had a pad.
emus (XSF Com. Team)ok. but I have made a presentation
