  1. emus

I will tweet an reminder announcement I think this time

  3. Sam

Reverting changes to the office hours wiki page, FYI. I know I said "do whatever" but this is impossible to read now. Put the table on another page if you want it for some reason.

  4. emus

ahh I put 45 mins into it, please do net delete

  5. Sam

I'm sorry you spent so much time on it, but it's just clutter on the page that's not necessary and distracts from the actual content.

  6. Martin

You can still get it from the history and add it to another page.

  7. Sam

We don't need a list of every single talk we've ever done there, just an example or two.

  8. emus

As said, I would like to have one. You don't need to maintain it

  9. Sam

Put it on a different page and link to it then.

  10. Sam

It's just distracting on the page about office hours, we want to encourage people to sign up and figure out when the current one is, not give them a giant page with a huge scroll bar that they'll just navigate away from quickly.

  11. emus

ok, but I thought sign up is maintained through xmpp.org

  12. Sam

It is? I don't know what you mean, sorry

  13. emus

    https://xmpp.org/community/officehours/

  14. Sam

    That's correct

  15. Sam

People who find it via the wiki page are pointed to that page

  16. emus

Sam, is this message free of errors:

  18. Sam

I think we're past Windows 10 now, maybe just #windows? Otherwise LGTM

  19. emus

    ahh auto tag

  21. emus

    Starting now!

  22. Martin

    I don't see anything.

  23. Martin

Ok, another browser works. Seems my firefox is too strict.

  24. Sam

Firefox needs permission to use Canvas IIRC and it doesn't actually pop anything up, just puts a tiny icon in the address bar telling you it wants various permissions

  25. emus

Sam, can you tell the audience after the entrie talk but incl. recording how to onboard to the office hours?

  26. Sam

    Will do

  27. emus

    cool

  28. emus

    📹ī¸đŸ‘ī¸

  29. emus

Sam, why can the table not be at the very end of the page, so all important stuff is above. If one is really interested in old ones, they can scroll and also sort through the list, right?

  30. Sam

Because it's cluttered and not useful. We don't want to scare people off with tons of unnecessary information.

  31. emus

but how is it scaring them, if they can read the details on the top and engage in more details below

  32. wurstsalat

Without having looked at the page myself: It takes time for people to scan a page for valuable information. I'd like to see a "Previous Topics" link (to a separate page) more than having a list on the first page

  33. emus

    https://wiki.xmpp.org/web/Previous_talks

  34. emus

    https://wiki.xmpp.org/web/Previous_talks

  35. emus

    https://wiki.xmpp.org/web/XMPP_Office_Hours

  36. emus

wurstsalat, if I create the json, could you think of something rendered on the XSF Office hours page

  37. emus

    ?

  38. emus

then we can remove the wiki page

  39. emus

    or would that all I need to create a previous_talk.html ? https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/blob/master/themes/xmpp.org/layouts/shortcodes/books.html

  40. wurstsalat

don't you think the wiki is a suitable place, emus?

  41. emus

Well, we advertise first the .org site, and there you can also see talks in the list I think it would look way more professional to have it there. If one still wants to go to the wiki they can do

  42. wurstsalat

If only we had automatic website deployment :)

  43. emus

    🙂
