jonas’: isn't this kind of picture generally not @alt'd exactly because it's just cosmetics? Even though in a toot they would certainly be avoided and so it may look like something meaningful that doesn't have an @alt text..

pep., as mastodon does not set alt="" for undescribed pictures (correctly), screenreaders may read stuff like "picture without description", which isn't exactly great

if you wanted to explicitly state "this thing is cosmetics", you'd use different means or alt="", support of which probably varies a lot
