  1. neox

emus, ok seems totally doable !

  2. emus

neox: Should I just ping you next time?

  3. neox

    emus, yup

  4. emus

    🙏

  5. debacle

Funny observation: "Toot" by XSF about the summit: 7 re-"toots", and 19 favourites. "Tweet" with same content: 2 re-"tweets", 4 likes.

  6. MattJ

Yeah, I've seen the same thing over and over again, first and second hand

  7. MattJ

You've seen the Snikket Twitter/Mastodon follower graphs? :)

  8. ralphm

So Tooters are more trigger happy? :-D

  9. MattJ

I think it's a combination of factors. I think Twitter is much larger, so you're competing with more things for attention. But also people on the Fediverse are also aligned with our projects more than the average person on Twitter.

  10. jonas’

    also, the algorithm™

  11. jonas’

    (not the band)

  12. jonas’

(though the band / music project is definitely recommended)

  13. ralphm

I don't really understand why people complain about "the algorithm" in Twitter. You can, and have been able to for a very long time, just look at the stream of people you follow in chronological order.

  14. pep.

    Defaults matter though.

  15. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

plus doesnt it have promoted tweets and ads in there?

  16. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

    unless you have subscription

  17. singpolyma

    > for a very long time Literally always since there was a Twitter yes

  18. jonas’

    defaults matter a lot :)

  19. singpolyma

Could be. Chronological has always been the default for me, but probably because my account is so old

  20. jonas’

    does chronological imply complete?

  21. jonas’

I never used twitter, I have no clue.

  22. singpolyma

    So far as I know

  23. ralphm

Yes, if it is not complete that's a bug.

  24. ralphm

And unlike Facebook, your choice doesn't revert back after time.

  25. ralphm

Also, yes, there are ads in there. There's no such thing as a free lunch. Yes, there are alternatives, but they, too, come with a cost.

  27. debacle

emus AFAIK, views are not counted in Mastodon, only on Twitter.

  28. debacle

Never had a Twitter account, I'm only looking at the web page (or nitter.net).

  29. emus

yes but twitter was always used to be very unresponsive

  30. ralphm

I think statistically there's not much to be gotten from these numbers, as they are too low. But any attention is great.

  31. emus

You never know whos is ready đź«
