edhelas: I think I must have a basic misunderstanding as I cannot really find an rss to atom converter

Hello everyone !
-
gnemmi
I just translated the "#XMPP Specifications July 2024" Mastodon post to ES and posted it on Mastodon, Lemmy and Reddit

hope that's ok with you guys

As always, in case it is not, just let me know and I'll delete them right away

Also .. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but you can always tell be where should I ask then .. but .. what would it take to have an "oficcial" Lemmy instance listed on xmpp.org?
-
gnemmi
Or, maybe, what makes the one that we already have an "unfficial"?
-
gnemmi
s/"unfficial"/"unofficial"/

Thanks gnemmi for your efforts :)

There was a Lemmy instance for xmpp stuff, but it did not get significant traction, so it was closed again.
-
gnemmi
cal0pteryx, you are super welcome! And .. no need to thank me! I do it because I *love* doing it! I just wish I could do more!!
-
cal0pteryx
There were some attempts to create and establish a Discourse instance, but that idea did not evolve so far
-

> There was a Lemmy instance for xmpp stuff, but it did not get significant traction, so it was closed again. Oh .. I understand .. and yes ... Lemmy has only recently been gaining a lot of traction ... ↺

In my opinion it would be nice to have a venue for multiple things in a central place. A venue for XSF topics, standard development and so on, then a venue for software developers as a circle for helping each other out with library suggestions, development and design questions. And then a third venue for user support of any xmpp related software
-
cal0pteryx
See for example the python Discourse instance
-
gnemmi
Actually .. much to my disconfort I found out that the Matrix instance has something like 2,2k follower whereas the XMPP one doesn't even make it to 300 ...
-
gnemmi
And even worse ..
-
gnemmi
Yesterday I was checking out my settings on Lemmy and found this

Checkout phpBB, where you can set a Jabber ID :D

gnemmi, I complained about that years ago. Especially promoting the element.io services and not even Matrix in general is really against the general fediverse spirit, but the developers don't seem to be willing to change this.

Especially promoting the element.io services and not even Matrix in general is really against the general fediverse spirit, but the developers don't seem to be willing to change this. I didn't know about that .. I found out yesterday and it really made me feel unconfortable .. ↺

I think for an xmpp forum/platform to gain traction it would need the support of all members and contributors.

Kris
gnemmi, honestly, the politics etc of the Lemmy developers suck, but it's still the best federated Reddit alternative.

> gnemmi, honestly, the politics etc of the Lemmy developers suck, but it's still the best federated Reddit alternative. yes .. and that's the reason why it made me feel so unconfortable. ↺

Kris
if I was to set up something completely new I would probably try Piefed
-
Kris

-
gnemmi
but Pixelfed is an Instagram alternative ..
-
Kris
not Pixelfed ;)
-
gnemmi
Oh .. sorry
-
Kris
Although Pixelfed is about to get a Lemmy compatible groups implementation as well
-
gnemmi
Yes ... that much I know. Lemmy grew a lot in comparison to Kbin ..
-
gnemmi
It seems to have stablished itself as "the" Reddit alternative .. and now is getting quite a few eyeballs looking at it
-
Kris
It's the most mature implementation, but projects like Piefed are catching up
-
Kris
kbin is sadly unmaintained due to health issues of the main developer. There is a mbin fork, but it seems not very actively developed either
-
gnemmi
I didn't know Piefed. I'm taking a look at it right now. Thanks for pointing it out Kris :)
