The Newsletter still needs a paragraph describing the activities that took place at the ### XMPP at FOSDEM 2025

I wasn't there, so I couldn't come up with anything on that regard

Pictures for ### XMPP at FOSDEM 2025 have already been added

It would probably be a good idea to get the consent from the people that appears in the first picture though

I can see intosi ralphm goffi .. so it would be nice if they could pop up in here and consent to the pic being published on the Newsletter

A simple "I consent" would do

Everybody in the picture has given me express permission for it to be used for promotional purposes

Other than that, I removed the link to the Twitter account and fixed all the links to point to their relative paths ( removed the https://xmpp.org part )

Also of interest. I've added the "peertube-plugin-livechat" to the pad. I didn't kow about it up until a few weeks ago.

It relies on the XMPP protocol (also known as Jabber). It is therefore possible to connect to the chats using XMPP client software.

gnemmi: I think that my activitypub <=>XMPP gateway predates the Peertube plugin, but to be fair it's not officially released yet, even if it's in use by few people.

goffi, oh! I didn't know you activitypub <=>XMPP was older!. Please remember to let me know when you make your first official release so I can add it to the pad!.

Also, would you mind sharing the project url so I can keep track of it?

goffi, perfect! I'm already following all of them! 😂

The gateway is a server component, it's compatible with the whole existing XMPP ecosystem. For public message, blogging must be supported by client though (private messages are converted to chat).

I'll take a stab at it and as grunfink about that then. I think snac + XMPP would make a killer combo!

Would be great yeah. But I didn't yet test libervia yet and don't really know how it works. The good thing about snac is, that it supports most (or all?) actions via command line so something can easily glued together

For real though .. snac + XMPP ( for DM ) would be *so* awesome to see ..

What is snac exactly? I though it was a typo for smack, but apparently it's something else.

goffi, oh, sorry about that! snac is a: A simple, minimalistic ActivityPub instance ( written in portable C, with Mastodon API support, totally JavaScript-free )

You can think of it as a really lightweight, no database, no cookies, no JS Mastodon replacement ..

Ok. Well the AP gateway is following ActivityPub spec. So it should work. If not, report it please 🙂

Also, and I've been thinking about this for a while, now that hook mentioned https://www.euro-stack.info/ ... I've been meaning to ask: why aren't there any XMPP clients listed on https://european-alternatives.eu/ ?

There are at least two categories where XMPP clients and servers could be listed as "european-alternatives" ... but there are none =/

I'd really like to use the Newsletter as a vehicle to let the world know that, both XMPP clients and Servers, are valid "european-alternatives"

I think it always said Sweden since it's listed. It was listed after I mentioned it to the account of that site not long ago. I guess they misunderstood something, who knows.

cal0pteryx, sorry, I should have told you earlier!. The PR is ready for review. It still needs a paragraph on FOSDEM 25 though .. I couldn't come up with anything for it as I wasn't there ( and never have been for that matter ) so I couldn't say a thing about an experience I never had 😬

I haven't been this year either. Anybody in this room who went to FOSDEM this year and who would like to drop a sentence about their experience? :)
