> - [Dino](https://dino.im/) has released version [0.5](https://github.com/dino/dino/releases/tag/v0.5.0) featuring improved file transfers and two completely reworked dialogs. See the release [blog post](https://dino.im/blog/2025/04/dino-0.5-release/) for all the details. We should also highlight omemo by default. ↺

SVG of newsletter banner https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/pull/1516 Let me know if further changes would be helpful. Can improve quality of hidden traced 'Newsletter' text if the original font is preffered.

Is something up with the newsletter pad? I keep getting a "This page is slowing down your browser" and my RAM usage creeps up till it crashes 🙁
- badrihippo hopes it's a temporary issue
-

Okay so I changed browsers (from LibreWolf to Epiphany) and it's now working; that's weird
-
praveen
badrihippo, yeah, the nixnet pad is not working
-
praveen
hence I left a comment here about dino e2e by default

badrihippo

This release also enables OMEMO encryption by default, a small but significant development that [brings it in line](https://gultsch.social/@daniel/114308227429665995) with other popular XMPP clients. See the release [blog post](https://dino.im/blog/2025/04/dino-0.5-release/) for all the details.

If expect to make changes often, it maybe helpful to script this and use CI to flatten fonts, possibly produce png/jpg outputs as well.

badrihippo
What fonts are you using? I don't think it'll be changed often, but I do need to change it now, hence need to know what fonts to use 🙂

By the way, the JPEG is linked to in existing blog posts so maybe we shoudn't remove it (assuming it's the same one)

The jpeg will change a little. Can export a new one.
-
badrihippo
Yep, that's fine I think

The XMPP text is already flattened. Took it from the existing svg for XMPP logo. The newsletter text uses DejaVu Sans UltraThin, though can change to something else if preffered.

Benson, as a source file it makes more sense to keep the text and the font I think.

Then for publication it can be converted to paths automatically using e.g. inkscape.
-
badrihippo
What I do sometimes is to keep the text and font, but hidden, and have a version of it converted to path visible on top

Probably better to have a source file, then use CI to create what will be distributed if it will be changed regularly, or create additional distribution files. badrihippo, let me know if you have suggestions for other changes and how many additional customized files you want to create. If it is just text change from "Newsletter" can do that, but if you also want to customize icon and possibly layout, that would be great.

badrihippo
Yes, I'm planning to customise the icon as well. Not sure about the layout, but let's see; maybe I'll get inspired once I open inkscape 😉
