XSF Communications Team - 2025-04-27

  1. Benson

emus: can add these changes. Collaboration with badrihippo has been great. Hopefully can get scour working from a python script later today.

  2. emus

Ah, then thanks to both of you!!

  3. anubis

trying to open the pad link make me Firefox burn (in CPU as well as RAM), is it working for you? new anti-AI protection? :')

  4. gnemmi

anubis, I've been having the same problem for the last week ( or week and a half ). Still managed to keep the pad updated though. Is there something in particular that you'd like to add or check out?

  5. Benson

emus: The XSF does not have a logo, XMPP logo has been used everywhere. May need to create an XSF logo.

  6. gnemmi

Benson: I think emus meant to ask if you could also add an announcement "banner" that says *XFS* Announcement instead of *XMPP* Announcement .. And if it would posible to add some dashes to the megaphone icon to convey the idea of loud sound coming from it

  7. gnemmi

I may be completely wrong though .. but that was what I understood

  8. gnemmi

No need for a new logo, just different wording on the same banner

  9. gnemmi

    s/*XFS*/*XSF*/

  10. gnemmi

    s/ *XFS*/ *XSF*/

  11. Benson

    Adding dashes.

  12. emus

Are there typical symbols that cover "officiality"?

  13. gnemmi

Not that I know of 🤔

  14. emus

No, I want to keep the XMPP Announcement logo too

  15. emus

Evtl. we can also have an XMPP Event logo. But I don't want to stretch the effort here.

  16. gnemmi

emus: do you mean logos or banners?

  17. emus

    sorry. banner yes

  18. gnemmi

    Perfect

  19. gnemmi

So 2 banners: 1) XMPP Announcement 2) XSF Announcement

  20. gnemmi

And a tentative 3) XMMP Event

  21. emus

    You nailed it 😄

  22. gnemmi

    🤗

  23. emus

*XMPP Market - Announcement of a new event* Dear all, I am announcing a new event - The XMPP Market! The XMPP universe is a network of diverse solutions with also a wide spectrum of motivations, products, projects but of course also people and their ideas. However, due to the nature of a federated network most projects are not presented in a connected context. The purpose of this event is to have an open, regular and exposing promotion event that allows everyone with their solution, software, products and effectively XMPP client’s within the XMPP eco-system to present to their users. The focus is on simple communication, product features, ideas and promotion to non-tech-savvy end-users. In general, the track is open to everyone that develops products within the XMPP universe of any kind. That includes also commercial products and sponsors using XMPP in their backend. The event is planned to take place four times per year respectively once a quarter. You can read more details and sign-up via this pad: https://pad.nixnet.services/LsEMiQBvQROi9prGk6oobQ?view Sign-up goes via this list (Please read the instructions and requirements first!): https://pad.nixnet.services/LsEMiQBvQROi9prGk6oobQ?view#Sign-up-list Let’s thrive communication federation and true interoperability! 24. gnemmi

    Nice !!!

  25. gnemmi

Something like this could end up sprouting enough videos to justify hosting our own peertube instance 😉

  26. gnemmi

Which, btw, was idea I was trying to bring into the table a few weeks ago ..

  27. gnemmi

Which, btw, was the idea I was trying to bring into the table a few weeks ago ..

  28. emus

    > Something like this could end up sprouting enough videos to justify hosting our own peertube instance 😉 Yes, Im on it. But I would like to take an exisiting instance.

  29. gnemmi

    🤔

  30. emus

    Recommendations?

  31. gnemmi

peertube.opencloud.lu seems to be the one to go ...

  32. gnemmi

libreoffice has their account on that one

  33. gnemmi

    let me check

  34. gnemmi

    nope .. can't confirm ..

  35. gnemmi

Me recommendation: get in touch with Mike Saunders ( great, great guy ) and ask him what, why and how did they approached and solve this issue, and then follow suit ..

  36. gnemmi

Me recommendation: get in touch with Mike Saunders ( great, great guy ) and ask him what, why and how did they approach and solve this issue, and then follow suit ..

  37. gnemmi

Still, libreoffice has only "one" product ( composed by a suite of applications, yes ... ). And that made me wonder if their solution would still apply to us, because as it was just pointed out by the text of the Announcement "The XMPP universe is a network of diverse solutions with also a wide spectrum of motivations, products, projects .."

  38. gnemmi

Thus, hosting our own peertube instance would allow us to give each and everyone of the members of the spectrum their own channel to deliver whatever content they see it fits better to their needs ..

  39. gnemmi

So, basically, each client could have its own channel on the XSF peertube instance to publish videos on how their clients work, how to do this or that, show how they solved a particular problem, create instructional videos on how to help on their development and so on ..

  40. emus

gnemmi: Thanks, I see. I would love to see many more instances like this. Though we cannot maintain it I think and should be careful with that.

  41. emus

But what I wanted to say in addition to XMPP Market: Thanks to all that helped on the Newsletter the recent half year. Especially you gnemmi. Delegating this a bit allowed me to think of such a new format and try building this up!

  42. gnemmi

Absolutely understandable .. believe me .. I know all there is to know about "things I could be doing but I am not because I can not sustain them over time"

  43. emus

I mean, I don't know what hosting takes, but I don't see that iTeam wants to support this.

  44. gnemmi

emus, that has always been the whole idead!. Giving you and the Com team free time to work on more serious isssues while, at the same time, giving something back to every member of the XMPP ecosystem by posting news on their respective projects!

    ❤️ 1
  45. gnemmi

emus, sure. I never meant to add more burden on the iTeam.

  46. gnemmi

But .. I mean .. a federated world surely has a federated solution to federated problems 😉

  47. emus

    > emus, that has always been the whole idead!. Giving you and the Com team free time to work on more serious isssues while, at the same time, giving something back to every member of the XMPP ecosystem by posting news on their respective projects! ❤️

  48. emus

But can we maybe just use an instance in the beginning?

  49. gnemmi

Of course!! Any solution will always be a whole lot better than no solution!!

  50. gnemmi

That was why I thought about getting in touch with Mike from LibreOffice and ask him about how did they solve it, if he, maybe, has any recommendation on a particular instance and so on ..

  51. gnemmi

LibreOffice is quite a large project. They have all sorts of material on video. There's probably a good reason why they are still not hosting their own peertube instance. Though that may be due to the fact that, all in all, they just have "one" product ..

  52. gnemmi

Regardless, they've already been through this, so they already know better than we do

  53. Schimon

Good evening. I would want to contact with Mr. Justin Kirby (Zion). I would appreciate to receibe contact details. http://www.openaether.org/contact.html (offline) https://wiki.xmpp.org/web/User:Zion

  54. badrihippo

    > So 2 banners: 1) XMPP Announcement 2) XSF Announcement Hi! Just wanted to say that I'm busy with family/holiday stuff this weekend and a few days after, but I can draw up these other two banners after that!

  55. badrihippo

Maybe merge this PR in (once Benson adds the lines) since it's been going on for a while, and I'll make a separate PR for the additional banners?

  56. badrihippo

Also I haven't read the full details but that XMPP Marketplace idea sounds cool!

    ❤️ 1
  57. emus

    badrihippo: No rush. May thanks!
