gnemmi, or anyone editing the newsletter, would you be kind to provide a feedback?
-
gnemmi
anubis, hey there! Sure! What is that you would like to get feedback about?
-
anubis
i contributed to the newsletter of May but it is not reflected in the final newsletter (and it seems the pad basically does not match the newsletter), is https://pad.nixnet.services/ohny_zvlt8sofycqic2ung still the correct place to contribute?
-
gnemmi
Could you please describe what part was it exactly that you contributed?

gnemmi
let me check
-
gnemmi
the DI.Day paragraph?
👍 1 -
gnemmi
OK .. let's try to unravel this
-
gnemmi
First thing everyone needs to know is that the fact that something gets added to the pad does not mean it will automatically included in the final text of the Newsletter
-
gnemmi
The pad is a "buffer" if you will
-
gnemmi
After the pad is done, the information on it gets reviewed by the Comm Team and the most relevant information makes it into the PR
-
gnemmi
which then goes trough different stages
-
gnemmi
Onces the PR is open, we do a public call in this channel for **everyone** to contribute to the **REVIEW** stage
-
gnemmi
That guarantees that everyone has equal chance to take part in the composition of the document
-
gnemmi
Even then, that doesn't mean that any given piece of news will actually make it into the final document (the Newsletter release)
-
anubis
does it mean that once the PR is open the pad is not used any more?✎ -
anubis
does it mean that once the PR is opened the pad is not used any more? ✏
-
gnemmi
The content of the final document is always subjec to the criteria of the Comm Team Editor, which makes all final calls
-
gnemmi
> does it mean that once the PR is opened the pad is not used any more? Yes. And that's explicitly in the PR ↺
-
gnemmi
Let me show you
-
gnemmi
https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/pull/1683
-
gnemmi
You'll find the text in the opening note
-
gnemmi
If you would like to add news, that's possible via: Using our online Pad (Pad is closed for May 2026!)
-
gnemmi
That meas that as soon as the PR is created, the pad is closed
-
gnemmi
For the month in course .. that is
-
anubis
hm, 1/ it would be relevant to mention *in the pad* that the pad is closed, as the link of the pad is shared everywhere 2/ i think my contribution was from the 27th, thus well before the PR opening?
-
gnemmi
Once the PR is open, the pad is closed and the **review** stage begins
-
gnemmi
1/ would be a good additon. I'll add it to the pad
-
gnemmi
2/ the fact that the information made it before the pad closed does not mean that the information will make it into the final document
-
gnemmi
The Newsletter is an official document issued by the XSF that contains curated information that is relevant to the XSF in particular
-
anubis
> 1/ would be a good additon. I'll add it to the pad Thanks, that's will be helpful! ↺
-
gnemmi
There's an awful lot of information (believe me, I spend the whole month working on it) that even though is relevant to the XMPP community, it is not to the XSF
-
gnemmi
It has happened to me personally, I've added a lot of things that, in the end, didn't make the cut to the final document
-
gnemmi
In the particular case of the DI.DAY (and this is only my personal opinion, with my Comm Team hat OFF) is happens to be a strongly local initiative strongly linked to the German community and bears no relation to the XSF activities, and more to the point: the XSF objective and mission
-
gnemmi
That kind of information is a whole lot better suited for other channels like, maybe, joinjabber?
-
gnemmi
Or some more community focused channels
-
anubis
is it usual to get a short feedback here when a content is not accepted from the XSF moderation? In the end in my case i'm still not sure wether it was censured by the moderation or if the information came too late to be considered and we can have a new try for the newsletter of June.
-
gnemmi
No .. or at the very least not in here. If there is any feedback, you will always find it in the PR (which is actually constituted by a lot of additions, deletions, corrections and what not).
-
gnemmi
Again, that's why there's a DRAFT, and a REVIEW stage that spans from the 1st to the 5th day of the month until the PR gets merged
-
gnemmi
That's the time frame everyone has to contribute to the confection of the final document
-
gnemmi
Once again, fell free to take a detail look at https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/pull/1683 to verify the amount of work that gets done before the Editorial Closing takes place
-
anubis
OK let's keep it for June and see what the gods says then. Thanks for your clarifications and your support in the preparation of the newsletter anyway!
-
gnemmi
anubis, please, don't trust this to the gods as none of us are gods nor claim to be
-
gnemmi
All of us are unpaid contributors that put a lot of effort in the making of the Newsletter
-
gnemmi
Some of us do carry a heavier burden in the process, but that doesn't make us gods nor anything remotely like that
-
gnemmi
It would be extremely helpful if more people made it into the MUC to discuss the news they would like to add than just hit the pad, paste a link and leave
-
gnemmi
And I really mean that
-
gnemmi
The pad is a collaborative effort, and that's clearly stated all over the place
-
gnemmi
But doesn't mean that every single piece of collaboration will make it to the final document
-
gnemmi
I hope you can understand that, as an official XSF document, a lot of care should be taken to keep the content in line with the XSF Mission
-
gnemmi

-
gnemmi
anubis, did I provide feedback that was up to your expectation?
