XSF Communications Team - 2026-08-16

So .. last day as an XSF elected member and Comm Team member for me.

I won’t deny that this is a particularly sad day for me ..

But the truth is that voluntary work is something one should be able to afford, and that hasn’t been the case for a really long time now .. which makes things even sadder.

Being a compromised Comm Team member is really time consuming, Putting together the Newsletter every month is no easy feat; it takes a lot of commitment and it’s really time consuming.

And I simply can’t afford it anymore.

Still, in spite of all of that, watching the xmpp.org GH contributors table and seeing my username at the 2# place for the last 24 months, fills me up with pride, and makes me feel that (only maybe) I may have lived up to the expectations .. although that’s something that’s not for me to say.

I want to publicly thank emus for his explicit act of recognition to my contributions .. which so gratefully led him to propose me as a Comm Team member even before I became an XSF elected member, and the trust he bestowed me with. I’ll never be able to thank you enough!

And to cal0pteryx, my brother in arms, always there to help, always there, ready to pick up the shovel and do what had to be done. The embodiment of what it means to be a compromised and committed member of the XSF and the Comm Team.

I’ve learned a lot along the way, and I owe that to the two of you.

It’s been a pleasure to have crossed paths with you guys, in this game we call "life"

Almost forgot .. MattJ, please remember to revoke my GH commit rights when you find your time. Rest assured that I won't be using them from August th 17th onwards.

gonzalo, that's indeed sad to hear, but life comes first. Your contributions have been incredibly helpful and your work has always been very thorough. In fact, you've become _the_ central person behind the XMPP newsletter. As you said, being able to personally afford voluntary work is important, and you have to take care of yourself as well. It has been a pleasure building the newsletter with you, gonzalo! Thank you for your kind words and thank you for your time!

I find template languages to be a funny constraint to work with. Always needs some creativity :)

Dear gonzalo, That is very sad news to hear that you want to leave 😿 You've certainly increased the quality of the XMPP Newsletter and several blogposts and put lots of energy into it. So much, that I often asked you to keep yourself in mind. Hence, I fully understand you decision. That effort will be missed for sure. If you ever change your mind you are welcome to come back!
