XMPP Council - 2010-12-08

  1. Kev

    Evening.

  2. Kev

Two people here on time today.

  3. Kev

    Pretty impressive.

  4. MattJ

    :)

  5. Kev

    What's MM's JID?

  6. MattJ

    linuxwolf on outer-planes.net

  7. Kev

    Ta

  8. MattJ

    "Away since 15:59:06" :)

  9. Kev

Fritzy did mention trouble with the house a day or two ago, although I didn't think that was intended to be apologies for Council. Maybe it was.

  10. linuxwolf

    HERE!

  11. MattJ

    Yay!

  12. linuxwolf

    /whew

  13. Kev

Well, no sign of Fritzy or Ralph.

  14. Kev

Oh, this does make me wonder about something, I'll AOB it.

  15. Kev

    1) Roll call

  16. dwd rolls.

  17. Kev

Matt & Matt & Kev. I'm not sure if Fritzy intended to apologise or not. Ralph hasn't.

  18. Kev

    2) Agenda bashing.

  19. Kev

I'll add something about minutes to the end.

  20. linuxwolf thinks of Newhart

  21. MattJ

    No bashing

  22. linuxwolf

I've got nothing to add or object to this week

  23. Kev

    3) http://www.xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/remote-auth.html Accept as XEP?

  24. MattJ

    +1

  25. linuxwolf

    I guess

  26. Kev

Despite some quite active discussion on the list, I don't see a reason to block this for the moment.

  27. linuxwolf

    agreed

  28. linuxwolf

+1 on accepting, but I doubt it actually solving a problem

  29. linuxwolf

    IMO

  30. Kev

    Right.

  31. Kev

    4) Interop report (Kev)

  32. Kev

So, we've got the server interop event this week.

  33. Kev

M-Link, Ejabberd, Prosody, Tigase and Psyched are participating on the server side, things are underway, we're doing basic today, TLS tomorrow, and TLS with cert checking Friday.

  34. Kev

I've put up some basic test plan, am vaguely overseeing (I'm avoiding being the Isode contact so I can keep my XSF hat on), and I'll write up an informal report at the end of the week.

  35. Kev

Not much to say other than that.

  36. Kev

    5) bis report (Peter)

  37. Kev

Except stpeter seems to be DND.

  38. dwd

My amazing psychic powers tell me he's on the phone.

  39. linuxwolf goes around corner to see if he's in office

  40. Kev

    Quite.

  41. Kev

    6) e2e report (Peter)

  42. Kev

    Also problematic without Peter.

  43. Kev

So let's jump to my extra point

  44. mlundblad

dwd: my amazing contact list tells me he's "on the phone"

  45. mlundblad

    :)

  46. linuxwolf

stpeter must be working form home…so no way to ping him

  47. Kev

    7) Minutes of Council attendance.

  48. linuxwolf

    s/ping/poke

  49. stpeter

    hmm

  50. MattJ

linuxwolf, could give him a call... oh

  51. dwd

linuxwolf, Yeah, working from home, we all know what that means.

  52. linuxwolf

    "A wild stpeter appears!"

  53. stpeter

stupid calendar didn't pop up a reminder

  54. Kev

I don't intend to be a bastard about it, but I keep writing minutes saying "X wuz ere" in the Roll call, when X didn't turn up until Council was about to end.

  55. Kev

As these are supposed to be a record of what actually happens, I think they should probably indicate this.

  56. linuxwolf

    Kev: 10 minute rule

  57. Kev

So I'm inclined to start saying "Here, not here, late"

  58. MattJ

Fine by me, that also occurred in my mind when reading the last minutes

  59. Kev

linuxwolf: Is that as an alternative to what I propose?

  60. Kev

It wasn't that I want to start being a bastard about anyone 30 seconds late.

  61. linuxwolf

Kev: yes…from my college days…if you're more than 10 minutes late, you're "not here"

  62. dwd

I would also note that for members who actually care about who they vote for, having an accurate account of who turns up to meetings, and who votes (and when!) is a useful metric.

  63. Kev

dwd: I'm not convinced by 'and when', any more.

  64. linuxwolf

which impacted your ability to access the lab compueters

  65. Kev

Given that we now have a standard voting period, and we stick to it.

  66. stpeter

anyway, about e2e I've talked with the OTR guys about potentially documenting their stuff in an RFC (probably informational), we'll see where that leads

  67. Kev

linuxwolf: Which is ok, except that 10 minutes late is 33% of the longest Council meeting :)

  68. MattJ

+1 - I might vote late because I want to give the specs more careful review, etc.

  69. stpeter scrolls up

  70. linuxwolf

    Kev: 5 minutes late?

  71. linuxwolf

    (-:

  72. dwd

MattJ, Yes, that seems reasonable. Not voting at all is less than helpful, though, speaking as a spec author (on occasion).

  73. MattJ

    Agreed

  74. linuxwolf

    /nod

  75. Kev

linuxwolf: I was going to go by the "If someone's late, they're marked late", and "If someone's not here by the time I gavel-bang, they're Not Here"

  76. Kev

So I'll go with this method in future minutes unless someone fiercely objects.

  77. linuxwolf

Kev: either works for me…depends on how heavy-handed we want to be

  78. Kev

I don't overly intend to be heavy-handed, and needing to poke someone because they forgot, and turn up 30seconds later isn't the point.

  79. linuxwolf

Kev: you're the Chair, afterall (-:

  80. Kev goes to read up for stpeter's comment.

  81. Kev

Ok, so that was the e2e report - bis, stpeter?

  82. stpeter

the bis docs are getting closer every day, damn IESG members :)

  83. stpeter

still waiting for further feedback from the general area review team reviewer

  84. dwd

I admit I'm probably not exactly helping by nitpicking on bits I re-review. :-/

  85. Kev

Enough of a report for me :)

  86. Kev

    Date of next meeting?

  87. linuxwolf

dwd: are you admitting to being a troll? (-:

  88. stpeter

it's on the agenda for next Thursday again (IESG telechat)

  89. Kev

I'm inclined at this point to suggest 'first Wed in Jan', and skip the holiday season, but could be talked into other things.

  90. dwd

linuxwolf, No, I just happen to *like* living under this bridge.

  91. dwd

Kev, Might be useful to have one next week to review this week's interop.

  92. linuxwolf

    agreed

  93. stpeter

yeah, interop review would be good

  94. Kev

I can do next week, as long as my Isode overlords keep me out of meetings despite being in the office.

  95. linuxwolf

    (with dwd, oddly enough)

  96. stpeter

I tried to ping those Cisco people to participate ;-)

  97. MattJ

stpeter, do we have any reliable 3rd-party opinions of OTR's suitability for XMPP?

  98. MattJ

    Next week is fine

  99. linuxwolf keeps his XSF hat on

  100. stpeter

    MattJ: not really

  101. linuxwolf

MattJ: I have comments, but have kept them to myself so far (-:

  102. linuxwolf

    I should stop doing that

  103. Kev

Ok, so next week, usual time?

  104. stpeter

MattJ: first we'd do an informational draft and then try standards-track, I think

  105. linuxwolf

    +1

  106. dwd

Kev, I'd forgotten about our little roadtrip.

  107. MattJ

    stpeter, ok, I can't wait :)

  108. Kev

dwd: I was taking your proposal to be an assurance that you'd keep me out of meetings for that time :)

  109. Kev

    8) Any other business?

  110. linuxwolf

    none from me

  111. dwd

Kev, WHat, I'm an overlord now? Cool.

  112. MattJ

    Ditto

  113. Kev

dwd: No, Steve's the overlord, you're just responsible for keeping him away next Wednesday afternoon at 4 :)

  114. Kev

    In any case.

  115. Kev

    Lacking AOB, fini.

  116. Kev

    Thanks all.

  117. linuxwolf

    grazie

  118. Kev

I'll send out minutes sometime soon (usually tomorrow).

  119. Kev bangs the gavel

  120. linuxwolf waves

  121. waqas

    Pft, missed the meeting again.

  122. stpeter

hmm, I see nothing about the next meeting?

  123. stpeter scrolls up

  124. Kev

    Next Wed, usual time.

  125. Kev

    It was discussed.

  126. stpeter

    sorry, I missed it

  127. stpeter

was on the phone with my mom at the time so a bit distracted

  128. Kev

    Forgiven.

  129. Kev

    Now, sleep.
