XMPP Council - 2011-01-12

  1. stpeter

we're scheduled to have a meeting soon, right?

  2. Kev

    9mins, yeah.

  3. Kev

My alarm should go off in about 5.

  4. stpeter

    :)

  5. Kev

Mind's all over the place today, unusual for me to set an alarm.

  6. stpeter

my mind's been all over the place since the first of the year, it seems

  7. linuxwolf

    ditto

  8. stpeter

but maybe it's this spell of vertigo I've got... ;-)

  9. linuxwolf goes to refill coffee before meeting

  10. stpeter

today I'm going to start reviews of open issues related to various topics for the Summit

  11. stpeter

then post summary messages to standards@

  12. stpeter

    first up will be XEP-0198

  13. stpeter

    I'll start updating http://wiki.xmpp.org/web/Radar too

  14. MattJ

    *ding*

  15. Kev

    Righty.

  16. linuxwolf

    *dong*

  17. Kev

    1) Baps

  18. Kev

Matt and Matt seem to be here, missing Ralph and Nathan.

  19. Kev

    2) Agenda Bashing.

  20. MattJ

    None

  21. linuxwolf

    none here

  22. stpeter

I might have some AOB items at the end

  23. Kev

    3) Encapsulated Digital Signatures in XMPP http://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/encapsulated-signatures.html Accept as XEP?

  24. Kev

    I don't see a reason not to.

  25. Kev

This is Kurt's alternative to the Encapsulating signatures XEP.

  26. linuxwolf

    +1

  27. Kev

I'm much more keen on encapsulated signatures.

  28. stpeter

so this is intended to replace XEP-0285?

  29. Kev

    stpeter: not immediately.

  30. Kev

    I mean: Publishing this doesn't deprecate 285

  31. stpeter

    sure

  32. MattJ

Kev, but is that the intention in the long run?

  33. Kev

The intention is that this is going to prove to be much better and 285 would be retracted.

  34. stpeter

but in general Kurt prefers this new approach to the older one

  35. stpeter

    ok

  36. stpeter

    super

  37. stpeter

I love it when authors do some rethinking

  38. linuxwolf

    (-:

  39. Kev

Kurt would have updated the old one, but I suggested that as it was a completely different approach it deserved a new XEP.

  40. stpeter nods

  41. stpeter

    makes sense to me

  42. Kev

And it's partly down to a misunderstanding with me that Kurt did 285 in the first place - this was always his preference, I believe.

  43. MattJ

    Ok, +1 then :)

  44. Kev

    4) Service Delegation http://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/service-delegation.html Accept as XEP?

  45. Kev

There are issues that I have with this, but they're not core.

  46. Kev

So I'd rather publish and address.

  47. stpeter

    always my preference :)

  48. linuxwolf

    same here

  49. MattJ

    +1

  50. MattJ

Someone (in jdev?) suggested PEP would be better, I think it's worth thinking about

  51. Kev

    Right.

  52. Kev

It's something that is worth addressing, though, I'm happy for this XEP to evolve to it.

  53. MattJ

    Agreed

  54. Kev

This is going to be interesting to ST and co too, I expect.

  55. linuxwolf

    /nod

  56. linuxwolf

now if gmail.com would support PEP...

  57. stpeter

    hrm yeah

  58. Kev

Right, was that not objecting from both Matts?

  59. linuxwolf

  60. MattJ

    It was

  61. Kev

    Great.

  62. Kev

    Next meeting - next Wednesday?

  63. Kev

I'm going to have problems with several weeks after that, for assorted reasons.

  64. stpeter

    WFM

  65. MattJ

    +1

  66. Kev

    Some insurmountable some not :)

  67. linuxwolf

    +1

  68. linuxwolf

wow…I've got time to get to my next meeting!

  69. Kev

Righty, what was your 6) AOB Then, Peter?

  70. stpeter

    rightio

  71. stpeter

I chatted with Emil Ivov of SIP Communicator (soon to be Jitsi) and we think that the ZRTP spec is ready for Last Call (XEP-0262)

  72. stpeter

    they have an implementation

  73. stpeter

    and feedback has been incorporated

  74. stpeter

however, he and his team will be at FOSDEM

  75. linuxwolf

    very nice

  76. stpeter

so we could chat with him there and then issue the Last Call

  77. stpeter

    no real preference here

  78. Kev

Let's chat at FOSDEM with people we can chat with at FOSDEM.

  79. stpeter

the ZRTP spec was approved at the IETF last year but still doesn't have an RFC number

  80. stpeter

    sure, WFM

  81. stpeter

same goes for Jingle Early Media (XEP-0269)

  82. stpeter

I need to poke Justin Uberti about that one, too

  83. stpeter

http://wiki.xmpp.org/web/Radar needs serious attention, but I've started that this morning

  84. MattJ

I hope 3920bis gets an RFC number before the year is out :)

  85. stpeter

this will result in lots of experimental XEPs going dormant etc.

  86. stpeter

MattJ: I hold the record for addressing and approving RFC Editor feedback, I hope to break that record this time ;-)

  87. MattJ

    :)

  88. Kev

stpeter: Radar was originally for my benefit, I think, and I'm not in need of that any more.

  89. stpeter

Kev: I think it will help me stay more organized :)

  90. Kev

But if you have other reasons for updating it, feel free :)

  91. Kev

So will MaybeLater, I'm sure :)

  92. stpeter

    heh

  93. stpeter

    true

  94. stpeter

    ok, that's my AOB item

  95. Kev

    Great, anyone else?

  96. MattJ

    Not here

  97. linuxwolf

    not today

  98. Kev

    Fab.

  99. stpeter

not here, not today, not right now!

  100. linuxwolf

oh, other than I have tickets and hotel accommodations for FOSDEM

  101. stpeter

    woot!

  102. Kev

    Yay!

  103. linuxwolf

that was the fastest I've ever had travel booked and approved

  104. linuxwolf

    literally 20 minutes

  105. Kev

    Fab.

  106. Kev

    Let's get multi-resource sorted :)

  107. linuxwolf

    definitely

  108. stpeter looks at the 7170 messages in his inbox and blanches

  109. vt100

    .o0( ouch )

  110. Kev

stpeter: Move them all to another folder, and just move them back 50 at a time or so.

  111. Kev

    Hoorah for mind tricks.

  112. Kev

    Anyway.

  113. stpeter

    :)

  114. Kev

Thanks all, tune in next week, same bat time, same bat channel.

  115. Kev bangs the gavel.

  116. stpeter

    excellent

  117. stpeter updates the calendar

  118. MattJ

    Thanks Kev

  119. Kev

And for making me feel far too old - http://superuser.com/questions/231273/what-are-the-windows-a-and-b-drives-used-for

  120. linuxwolf

    oh wow

  121. linuxwolf

I just found my first HDD … a whole whopping 40MB

  122. linuxwolf

    alright … adios amigos

  123. stpeter

    heh

  124. stpeter

    mine was 20

  125. stpeter runs calgen.py

  126. Kev

    Thanks Peter.

  127. stpeter

http://xmpp.org/extensions/ is nice if you allow googleapis.com to run scripts :)

  128. MattJ

    :)

  129. stpeter

    hey Remko!

  130. remko

    hey peter

  131. remko

i thought i'ld drop in to see how the meeting went :)

  132. stpeter

    hehe

  133. stpeter

yeah, Kev is quick about meetings

  134. remko

(i did see your microblog announcement in time, though. Good initiative ;-))

  135. Kev

Kev just has a very short atte

  136. stpeter

yeah the infrastructure team needs to automate that!

  137. stpeter

    :)

  138. remko

    true
