XMPP Council - 2013-04-17

  1. Tobias

can't attend the meeting later...will reply on list tomorrow

  2. Kev

    Ta.

  3. ralphm

    Hi Fans!

  4. Kev

    It's a Ralph.

  5. m&m

    *THE* Ralph (m)

  6. Kev

    Ding.

  7. Kev

    1) Roll call.

  8. m&m

    presente

  9. Kev

    I'm here.

  10. Kev

    MattJ?

  11. Kev

    ralphm?

  12. Kev

    Tobias sent apologies.

  13. ralphm

    Pong

  14. Kev

No sign of other Matt, I've poked him directly too.

  15. Kev

    2) http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0288.html Move to Draft?

  16. Kanchil

    Kev: http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0288.html: XEP-0288: Bidirectional Server-to-Server Connections

  17. Kev

    I'll vote onlist for this.

  18. m&m

    same here

  19. ralphm

    yeah

  20. Kev

I'm strongly tempted to write up a mock and implement 220/288 myself just so I can claim to understand them properly, but realistically I won't have time in the next fortnight and will vote 'blind'.

  21. Kev

    3) http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0152.html

  22. Kanchil

    Kev: http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0152.html: XEP-0152: Reachability Addresses

  23. MattJ

    Eek, here

  24. Kev

    Move to Draft?

  25. m&m

    I'll vote onlist

  26. MattJ

Had another meeting fullscreen and didn't realise the itme

  27. MattJ

    *time

  28. ralphm

Kev: maybe I should give that an actual attempt, while in-between jobs

  29. Kev

I'd like to request an extended LC for this - the LC has had no feedback and I could only find one comment from Lance going back a few months when Peter said he wanted to advance it saying "good" or thereabouts.

  30. MattJ

    Has anyone implemented it?

  31. Kev

Lance said something like "It's solved several problems for us already".

  32. ralphm

    that's one implementation

  33. MattJ

    Ah, great

  34. ralphm

    don't we want two?

  35. Kev

Want, yes. We don't require it until Final.

  36. ralphm

    ah, right

  37. Kev

Thankfully, or there's no chance of me getting 289 to Draft :)

  38. MattJ

It certainly seems like something that will solve problems - I'm actually not opposed to moving it on as-is

  39. ralphm

    MattJ: yeah

  40. Kev

MattJ: So you think we shouldn't extend the LC until someone replies?

  41. MattJ

Kev, well I'm not opposed to extending it, but I don't see that it's strictly necessary

  42. MattJ

More feedback would always be nicer - do you think we'll get it?

  43. m&m

I'm not opposed to extending either

  44. MattJ

    (excluding Lance)

  45. Kev

Moving to Draft when absolutely no-one has spoken in the LC supporting the idea seems bad.

  46. ralphm

    Kev: good point

  47. MattJ

Well extend it and poke Lance daily :)

  48. Kev

    All happy with that?

  49. MattJ nods

  50. m&m

I'll ask stpeter if he's aware of other interest

  51. m&m

    yes

  52. Kev

    m&m: Ta.

  53. Kev

    4) http://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/fis.html Accept as Experimental?

  54. Kanchil

Kev: http://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/fis.html: XEP-xxxx: File Information Sharing

  55. m&m

    hrm

  56. Kev

I don't mind publishing this, although I have absolutely no idea what http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0254.html has to do with it :)

  57. Kanchil

    Kev: http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0254.html: XEP-0254: PubSub Queueing

  58. MattJ

Heh, I think that might be a typo

  59. Kev

Oh. That hadn't occurred to me, really :p

  60. Kev

Anyone want to comment in-meeting, or is everyone else going onlist?

  61. MattJ

    I'll vote on-list

  62. MattJ

    Haven't read this version

  63. ralphm

    Not opposed

  64. Kev

    m&m?

  65. Kev

"hrm" wasn't clear to me :)

  66. m&m

I did not get a chance to read through it before … I'll say something on list

  67. Kev

    Ta.

  68. m&m

just that this almost feels like yet-another-file-sharing attempt

  69. Kev

    5) http://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/rayo.html Accept as Experimental?

  70. Kanchil

    Kev: http://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/rayo.html: XEP-xxxx: Rayo

  71. Kev

I've had no chance to read this, will post onlist.

  72. m&m

    same

  73. MattJ

    Me also

  74. MattJ

I read an earlier draft, and it seemed sane (once the requirements were understood)

  75. ralphm

http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0251.html was the reference, probably, by the way

  76. Kanchil

ralphm: http://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0251.html: XEP-0251: Jingle Session Transfer

  77. Kev

    ralphm: Yes, probably :)

  78. Kev

    ralphm: You onlist for RAYO?

  79. ralphm

    Yeah, it is looong

  80. Kev

    6) http://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/sensor-network-control.html Accept as Experimental?

  81. Kanchil

    Kev: http://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/sensor-network-control.html: XEP-xxxx: Sensor Networks - Control

  82. Kev

    Onlist for me.

  83. MattJ

    Ditto

  84. ralphm

    AOL

  85. Kev

    Morning Peter.

  86. ralphm

    hey stpeter

  87. stpeter

    sigh

  88. ralphm

stpeter: what about making it a repeating event, pretty please?

  89. Kev

m&m: You onlist for this one?

  90. m&m

    Kev: yes

  91. Kev

    7) http://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/sensor-network-concentrators.html Accept as Experimental?

  92. Kanchil

    Kev: http://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/sensor-network-concentrators.html: XEP-xxxx: Sensor Networks - Concentrators

  93. Kev

    Onlist for me again.

  94. m&m

    one list

  95. m&m

    on list even

  96. MattJ

    Ditto

  97. ralphm

    AOL

  98. Kev

    8) Next meeting.

  99. Kev

I can't do usual time next week.

  100. ralphm

    SBTSBC

  101. MattJ

    I can :)

  102. Kev

(Or most of next week, in fact).

  103. Kev

You're welcome to meet without me, or postpone for a week.

  104. m&m

    I can, too (-:

  105. ralphm

    Let's just keep the slot

  106. m&m

    /nod

  107. ralphm

    maybe there'll be nothing anyway

  108. Kev

    OK. Who wants to chair?

  109. m&m

    I can

  110. MattJ nominates m&m

  111. Kev

    OK.

  112. ralphm

    yay

  113. m&m

    hehe

  114. MattJ

    That settles it :)

  115. Kev

    m&m: Consider apologies sent.

  116. m&m

    Kev: noted

  117. Kev

    9) Any other business?

  118. MattJ

My quick comments on #2 as I was late...

  119. MattJ

I'm +1, but think the security considerations need expanding

  120. ralphm

If we can have the calendar event repeating or up-to-date?

  121. MattJ

(the LC feedback was along those lines too)

  122. Kev

ralphm: I don't know if it's possible to mark it repeating, but it seems sensible.

  123. Kev

I think Tobias has been updating the calendar recently, so we can poke him.

  124. Kev

    AOAOB?

  125. MattJ

    No

  126. m&m

    nay

  127. Kev

    Jolly good.

  128. Kev

    Think we're done, then.

  129. Kev

    Thanks all.

  130. Kev bangs the gavel.

  131. MattJ

    Thanks Kev

  132. ralphm

    yay!

  133. ralphm

    Peter Waher: good timing!

  134. Peter Waher

    seems I missed everything

  135. jabberjocke

anyone needs discussion on our xeps

  136. Kev

Peter Waher: Or nothing. Most stuff will happen on list.

  137. jabberjocke

    while we are here both

  138. Peter Waher

    ok, sounds good :)

  139. Peter Waher

I'm happy to respond to any questions, comments, suggestions, doubts anybody might have

  140. jabberjocke

the wiki pages are evolving http://wiki.xmpp.org/web/Tech_pages/IoT_systems

  141. Kanchil

jabberjocke: http://wiki.xmpp.org/web/Tech_pages/IoT_systems: Tech pages/IoT systems - XMPP Wiki

  142. Kev

Thanks. I've not read the new ones yet.

  143. Peter Waher

    ok

  144. Peter Waher

anything, just mail me. I'll try to respond as quickly as possible

  145. Peter Waher

    or by IM, Skype, etc.

  146. ralphm

    Skype!

  147. jabberjocke

I apologize for my friend :)

  148. Peter Waher

hehe, swearing in the church... :) Sorry.

  149. Peter Waher

Skype would be better, if it used XMPP though. Let's convince them that's a good idea.

  150. ralphm

Peter Waher: good luck with that

  151. Kev

    They nearly did.

  152. ralphm

But if you manage that, more power to you!

  153. Kev

They approached Justin (of Psi) to see about using Psi when they were starting out, but they wrote their own thing instead.

  154. Kev

Oh, it's that time. Need to duck out.

  155. jabberjocke

when will date for the next summit be decided?

  156. ralphm

when the date for RealtimeConf is announced

  157. ralphm

jabberjocke: so bug @yet for that :-D

  158. ralphm

    &yet even

  159. jabberjocke

ok would like to plan a IoT track, presenting the xep's etc.

  160. jabberjocke

    will ask him

  161. ralphm

    nice

  162. stpeter

    jabberjocke: probably in October

  163. stpeter

jabberjocke: I'll ping the &yet folks about that

  164. stpeter

jabberjocke: we don't really have tracks (usually), but we do assign time to various topics

  165. stpeter goes back to his conference call

  166. jabberjocke

It's a large subject, A presentation can be a good start, think hands on is needed also but thats perhaps another forum.
