  14. Dave Cridland

For some reason, I didn't think he was an XSF member. +1 assuming he is.

  15. SamWhited still doesn't see why we should care; he offered to help, and we see him in the chat room and participating in the community actively.

    thanks all

  25. Dave Cridland

SamWhited, Changing that particular rule would mean changing the XSF Editor Team from a "Work Team" to a "Special Interest Group", and the latter are open by definition.

  26. Dave Cridland

SamWhited, That is, by our bylaws, we couldn't *refuse* paricipation.

  27. SamWhited

Dave Cridland: I don't really care what we call it or what the rules say; this all sounds like a pointless discussion to me. We have a member of the community who wants to contribute more and we're short staffed. I don't see why anything else matters or why something that's said in some document somewhere should have any sway.

  28. Dave Cridland

SamWhited, Because it's a legally binding document on our activity. Someone could actually sue us, as bizarre as it sounds. We could adjust the bylaws, of course, but we can't just ignore them because they annoy you.

  29. SamWhited

I don't buy the legal argument; why in the world would anyone sue over something like that?

  30. SamWhited

Anyways, doesn't really matter, I have no say in the matter so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  31. Tobias

because of the huge amounts of $$$ in the XSF bank :D

  32. Dave Cridland

Sure you do - you can propose the changes to the bylaws as well as I can.

  33. Tobias

do the members vote on that or the board?

  34. Dave Cridland

    Members.

  35. Dave Cridland

Board has no special power here at all.

  36. Zash

Can't you just allow anyone to do Editor work, just as long as Someone Authorized is responsible?

  37. Tobias

ah..right...i remember voting once on a change of the bylaws i think, in all the years i've been a XSF member

  38. Dave Cridland

Tobias, Your memory is faulty; we've done it a few times now.

  39. Kev

    Maybe he didn't vote ;)

  40. Zash

    Shun the non-voter!

  41. Tobias

maybe you both are right :P

  42. Tobias

maybe you are both right :P

  43. Dave Cridland

Zash, I don't know, by the way, whether a Work Team could merely supervize. One could read things that way, I suppose.

  44. Dave Cridland

While I'm in the bylaws, I note a Work team is meant to have a chair, and that used to be M&M for the Editors - I suppose you guys should pick a new one.

  45. Kev

Maybe we should make it one of the inactive members, just for giggles.

  46. Kev

I really do need to get up to speed on how I do Editory things, as soon as I have a spare minute.

  47. Dave Cridland

We could, but way back when, I did want to have the chair report upward to Board, actually so the Board was aware of workloads early, and could seek out volunteers etc.

  48. Dave Cridland

SamWhited, Incidentally, I suspect that if an Editor started to ignore XEP-0001 on the basis that "something that's said in some document somewhere" should not have any sway, that would annoy a lot of people. Especially since we don't have an appeals process right now.

  49. SamWhited

I mean, I won't go giving people access to the infastructure or anything, but if people want to help I'm not going to stop them from contributing on the basis that they're not an XSF member.

  50. Dave Cridland

I don't know what other "help" would require membership.

  51. psa

sorry about missing the meeting earlier!

  52. ralphm

SamWhited: so, again, anyone not on the Editor Work Team, member or not, can do many things: prepare changes to XEPs or The Registry and submit these as a pull request, as a patch via e-mail, rtc

  53. ralphm

He can review and comment on such

  54. ralphm

And he can poke team members to merge

  55. ralphm

Until I see evidence that this is not suffient and inhibits work being done, I am not keen on changing the rules
