Are we meeting today?

I'm here; although I think it might be another week with nothing to discuss.

ISTR we had another Editor volunteer?

I'm being told I can't allow them to do anything without board approval, but board is not meeting so we are stuck in limbo because no one will grant them permissions on GitHub or EOS.

I know this is annoying you, but please don't try to stir.

I've said that if Board don't meet, and don't reply to my mail, I'll send a followup saying that I'm taking it as implicit approval by board, and assume Jonas is on.

Oh? That's good anyways, although I still think the policy is holding us back and we should ignore it.

I know I'm in the minority, but as Board explicitly chose that they wanted a veto over who was on the Editor team that we can't appoint people without giving board a veto.

But as a workaround for an inactive Board, I'll treat Board not replying to meeting to discuss it as implicit approval, if I have to.

In any case, I could have sworn I'd seen a second volunteer mailing the list, but I can't find it now.

I thought that was Jonas. Was it not?

jonasw and JC both replied; I replied to both of them, but my emails probably got stuck in the editor moderation list thing

Maybe some kind of ad-hoc thing where a question is posted to the board ml and there's at least one positive answer and no negative, allow it

I forgot to cc editor@ on jonas' reply, I did for JC but it got trapped in the editor@ moderation queue.

In any case, the reason Board have to (officially) pick is because Board are in charge of the procedures, whereas Council are meant to simply follow them.

At the risk of making board mad at me and being generally cranky, I don't especially care what the reasons are, or that it's the policy. I care that we can't get anything done and when people volunteer to help we put them off.

It's down to the charter of the team how the members are selected, and Board decided that for Editors this meant Council choosing and Board approving.
