XMPP Council - 2018-10-31

  1. jonas’

can anyone shed light on those: XEP-0234 (Jingle File Transfer), LC ends: 2017-12-12; https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0234.html XEP-0352 (Client State Indication), LC ends: 2017-12-21; https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0352.html XEP-0359 (Unique and Stable Stanza IDs), LC ends: 2018-11-03; https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0359.html XEP-0186 (Invisible Command), LC ends: 2017-12-21; https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0186.html XEP-0280 (Message Carbons), LC ends: 2018-02-22; https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0280.html XEP-0381 (Internet of Things Special Interest Group (IoT SIG)), LC ends: 2017-03-14; https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0381.html XEP-0363 (HTTP File Upload), LC ends: 2018-06-18; https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0363.html

  2. jonas’

they have open LCs, some for nearly a year now

  3. dwd

They fall into this wedge state of Proposed, mostly, I think. We did mean to do something about that problem. But XEP-0359, at least, is OK - that we can just vote on for Draft once its LC ends, can't we?

  4. jonas’

oh, I meant to elide that from the list

  5. Berk

    jonas’, see also: https://github.com/xsf/xeps/issues/577

  6. Berk

I recall a decision to push them back to experimental

  7. jonas’ reads minutes from that meeting

  8. dwd

I can't even rememebr if we did vote to advance-or-not. But we cannot, under XEP-0001, push them back to Experimental unfortunately. I can't recall if we decided we probably could as long as nobody looked / we squinted / we bribed someone.

commit f196f9196183695aecc64279b1fb48281915daf4 (HEAD -> master) Author: Jonas Schäfer <j.wielicki@sotecware.net> Date: Wed Oct 31 16:54:36 2018 +0100 XEP-0352: move back to Experimental Concil vote from 2018-02-07.

  10. jonas’

    no need to bribe

  11. jonas’

    the process is clearly broken

  12. dwd

Yeah. Technically counter to XEP-0001, though.

  13. jonas’

I suggest to ignore the process here and put fixing of hte process on the agenda

  14. dwd

Actually, anyone can fix the process, but Board needs to approve the fix.

  15. jonas’

council might wanna think about what we want

  16. jonas’

also, don’t you even have a meeting in 5min?

  17. dwd

    We do indeed.

  18. dwd

Although I didn't do an agenda because... well, I was on a train yesterday during my "Council Prep" slot, actually.

  19. dwd

    Tick... Tick...

  20. Kev

    Tock

  21. dwd

    1) Is There Anybody Out There?

  22. daniel

    Hi

  23. jonas’ is, but nobody cares :)

  24. dwd

    I care. :-)

  25. jonas’

well, not the roll call and quorum check

  26. peter

I'm confused. We've always just moved things back to Experimental.

  27. dwd

By fire and by brimstone, I call upon SamWhited.

  28. Ge0rG

    Good morning everyone!

  29. peter

But I'll leave that up to the Board and Council to decide, I'm just an interloper at this point. ;-)

  30. dwd

peter, Well, possibly we have. But according to XEP-0001...

  31. Kev

peter: We always have. Our process says we can't, but we always have.

  32. peter goes back to $dayjob stuff

  33. jonas’ points at peter and shouts "Interloper!"

  34. SamWhited

    oops, here

  35. dwd

    Ge0rG, Morning?

  36. dwd

    OK, full house.

  37. Ge0rG

    dwd: it's morning in UGT

  38. dwd

    2) Items for a vote.

  39. dwd

I don't *think* we have any, but I confess I didn't do much prep for this meeting as I was on leave yesterday and Monday.

  40. Ge0rG

Somebody ought to sort out the Spreadsheet of Doom to determine the actually expired votes and to put them up for re-election

  41. dwd

Yes, that's very much on me to do.

  42. Ge0rG

dwd: is it also on your todo?

  43. dwd

Ge0rG, It's on my to do list to put it on my todo list, yes.

  44. dwd

But in the absence of anything to actually vote on:

  45. Ge0rG

...to put it on the Agenda.

  46. dwd

    4) AOB

  47. dwd

    Wait.

  48. dwd

    3) AOB

  49. dwd

    I lost count.

  50. Ge0rG

    There are Council elections upcoming.

  51. Kev

AOB: Decison on number systems to use for counting agendums.

  52. dwd

Yes, and currently candidates are... sparse.

  53. jonas’

AOB: reminder of the currently in progress and not yet expired LC

  54. Ge0rG

Actually, the next Council meeting will be after the closing of the Council election candidate submission deadline.

  55. jonas’

specifically: XEP-0357 (Push Notifications), LC ends: 2018-11-03; https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0357.html XEP-0359 (Unique and Stable Stanza IDs), LC ends: 2018-11-03; https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0359.html

  56. dwd

Ge0rG, That;'s a good point. So anyone wishing to stand for next year's Council really should do the Wiki thing and stand soon.

  57. dwd

    jonas’, Thanks, so noted.

  58. Kev

    That ... is sparse, yes.

  59. dwd

I actually have no idea what happens if Council and/or Board are undermanned - I think Council and Board are empowered to co-opt, at that point. Not something I really want to have to deal with.

  60. Ge0rG

What happens if there are not enough candidates? Total breakdown or will we be "volunteered" for another year of service?

  61. Kev

    It's up-to the number.

  62. Kev

    From memory.

  63. Kev

Although a Council of Just Dave would probably be a bad thing.

  64. jonas’

it would be Dave and Link Mauve

  65. dwd

In any case, do stand if you can, and encourage others to stand.

  66. jonas’

what about the current council members? nobody wanna re-run except Dave?

  67. Kev

I don't think Link Mauve has written an application yet.

  68. Ge0rG

I'll volunteer, however I didn't want to just copy last years page.

  69. dwd

Kev, Indeed, he technically hasn't actually stood.

  70. Ge0rG

Also no stickers nor banners yet.

  71. jonas’

    he strongly intends to

  72. dwd

    Anyway - AOAOB?

  73. Link Mauve

Kev, I started writing one at least.

  74. Kev

    None here.

  75. dwd

    OK, so:

  76. dwd

    N+1) Next Meeting

  77. Link Mauve

    I’m four full days early!

  78. jonas’

Link Mauve, why do you always have to keep the suspense up

  79. Kev

    SBTSBC?

  80. dwd

I cannot actually make this time next week; for some reason I've had a meeting plonked on top of it.

  81. SamWhited

    WFM

  82. Kev

Someone poke me shortly before the deadline if we're still short of candidates and I'll think seriously whether I can afford the time.

  83. dwd

So if we do next week, someone else will need to herd the cats.

  84. dwd

    Kev, *poke*

  85. jonas’

    DST change in US?

  86. Kev

Actually, I can't next week either, just realised. I shall be in the car, I think.

  87. dwd

    Kev, Mobile XMPP?

  88. Ge0rG

    Don't chat and drive!

  89. Kev

Probably unwise while driving, I think.

  90. Ge0rG

Or use yaxim with Android Auto.

  91. dwd

Kev, Speech to text? "I vote plus one. Shit, you idiot, who taught you to drive."

  92. dwd

Anyway, are the remainder happy to meet, or should we skip next week?

  93. Kev

When is the last meeting of term?

  94. Kev

Not until the week after that, I think?

  95. dwd

    2018-11-21 I make it.

  96. Kev

    Week+1 then, works for me.

  97. daniel

    i’m fine with next week

  98. dwd

We have three Wednesdays remaining until the end of the world.

  99. daniel

but i can’t do the one after that

  100. SamWhited

Me: "Send: 'I vote plus one'", STT: "We sent: 'I vape Klause for fun'"

  101. daniel

so i'd rather not skip next week

  102. dwd

OK, let's assume next week is on, then.

  103. dwd

    So that's 2018-11-07 16:00 UTC.

  104. dwd

    N+1) Ite, Meeting Est

  105. dwd

    Thanks all.

  106. Kev

    Thanks.

  107. Ge0rG

    Thanks!

  108. pep.

"jonas’> Link Mauve, why do you always have to keep the suspense up" haha, this
