XMPP Council - 2019-01-10

  1. dwd

Link Mauve, jonas’ - can you two update your bios on the website here, please: https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/blob/master/content/pages/about/xmpp-standards-foundation.md - editing directly in Github works well, so it shouldn't take either of you long.

  2. goffi

    hi

  3. Ge0rG

    uh-oh! 😁

  4. dwd

goffi, If you're about to argue your case for the ProtoXEP, you're more than welcome (and indeed encouraged), but could you do so somewhere more visible (xsf@ perhaps?) in case others want to chip in.

  5. jonas’

dwd, it’s on my todo, will do when I’m at home

  6. jonas’

I don’t have my credentials with me

  7. Ge0rG

dwd, goffi: I'd argue for standards@ instead of a MUC

  8. dwd

Ge0rG, That would also be good, but sometimes the immediacy of a MUC is useful.

  9. Ge0rG

okay, I don't oppose to moving that to xsf@ under the condition that it will be written up to standards@ in the end

  10. Ge0rG

I haven't read up the previous discussion on standards@ yet, and I will do so ASAP

  11. goffi

dwd: no I just came to see the logs, I'll defend the case on xsf mailing list which is the right location in my opinion. But I'm work now, so it's not the right time :)

  12. Ge0rG

goffi: I tend to read up logs on http://logs.xmpp.org/council/

  13. goffi

I mean standard mailing list of course

  14. dwd

    goffi, Great, thanks.

  15. goffi

Ge0rG: yes I didn't knew the link, I've found it in the subject (it's probably on the wiki too I suppose).

  16. goffi

    know*

  17. Ge0rG

    :)

  18. goffi

I'll wait for the minutes first anyway.

  19. Guus

    Hello Council

  20. Guus

I noted that in the last weeks, you considerably structured the way you're doing things

  21. Guus

    Thanks for doing that

  22. Guus

Would now perhaps be a good time to include updating https://xmpp.org/about/xsf/records/council-votes/ in your effort?

  23. Guus

There's a huge gap, but if we choose to start record things again, we might be able to fill the gap from history too

  24. Guus

I'd love for our work to be more visible - keeping track of votes on the website would help.

  25. Ge0rG

Guus: we have a Spreadsheet of Doom from last year's Council

  26. Ge0rG

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AZ-Sna6OiRG--b-mJMKv3XXfrn3Nehm0kAtlyJvImL0/edit#gid=0

  27. Guus

Ge0rG Backporting I can do - but I'd first like to see if we can fit in an update to these pages in your 'regular process'

  28. Ge0rG

Guus: we can barely keep up with the 'regular process' ATM

  29. Guus

    I think you're selling yourself short there, Ge0rG 🙂

  30. Guus

but if Council deems it not feasible, then I won't press

  31. dwd

    I can look into it.

  32. Guus

    Thanks Dave

  33. jonas’

I would so love to automate all of that

  34. jonas’

    including our voting process

  35. jonas’

dwd, you seem rather occupied, mind if I take a shot at a voting bot?

  36. dwd

I have half of one written in slixmpp, but I imagine you'd prefer a different library?

  37. dwd

    But yes, you'd be welcome.

  38. Guus

  39. Ge0rG

    That would be really awesome.

  40. Ge0rG

Will it have Simple Buttons? 😁

  41. Zash

    Where'd that go anyways

  42. Ge0rG

    somebody fix XEP-0004

  43. Zash

    It's about forms, not actions.

  44. Ge0rG

actions are a subset of forms

  45. Zash

But at the same time a superset

  46. Zash

    Or maybe a sideset

  47. Ge0rG

can we have a DAG of that?

  48. Zash

Only if it's signed with a PoW algorithm

  49. Zash

If clicking that button doesn't waste at least as much as the annual power consumption of Dennmark then I'm not even interested

  50. Ge0rG once started to write a proto-XEP for using PoW to approve message delivery and to monetize the XMPP server at the same time

  51. Ge0rG

I wish I had the time to finish it.

  52. Ge0rG

    had had?

  53. Kev

    Yes, English being weird.

  54. Ge0rG

    Not the weirdest of languages.

  55. pep.

Do we not have a voting bot already, can it not be made for a more general purpose rather

  56. pep.

Link Mauve, you had patches for it btw

  57. Zash

I also distinctly remember Kev having made some council bot

  58. Zash

maybe it only did the agenda tho

  59. Kev

It was agenda-based. You put stuff on the agenda during the week, and typed !next repeatedly in the meeting to go through items.

  60. SouL

    Which sounds very nice

  61. Kev

It was amusing enough. I'm not sure it was the single biggest productivity gain in the world :)

  62. SouL

    Haha
