XMPP Council - 2019-10-02

  1. jonas’

heads up, I’ll have a hard deadline on 15:30 UTC

  2. jonas’

    anyone?

  3. jonas’

Ge0rG, Kev, Link Mauve, dwd (?)

  4. dwd

I'm only vaguely around (in an IETF MLS WG Interim)

  5. Link Mauve

    Hi, I’m here.

  6. jonas’

can we count dwd for quorum?

  7. Ge0rG is roughly there

  8. jonas’

    that’s 0.5 + 0.5 + 1.0 + 1.0, so I guess it’s quorum

  9. jonas’

if nobody objects I’ll take the chair

  10. Ge0rG

    sit down, please

  11. Link Mauve agrees.

  12. jonas’

    right

  13. jonas’

    let’s begin

  14. jonas’

    1) Roll Call

  15. dwd

You can't count me for Quorum I'm afraid, I'm only here to track, not to participate.

  16. Ge0rG fully materializes

  17. jonas’

    Link Mauve still there?

  18. Link Mauve

    Yes of course.

  19. jonas’

    good

  20. jonas’

    2) Agenda Bashing

  21. jonas’

Tedd was so kind to post an agenda.

  22. jonas’

A quick check hasn’t revealed anything he’s missed, which would mean no items for a vote.

  23. jonas’

    Does anyone disagree?

  24. Ge0rG

    No

  25. dwd

JC said his docs were ready, but they've not been announced by the Editor.

  26. jonas’

did I forget to send an email?

  27. dwd

If you didn't, then his docs - retraction? - are due a vote.

  28. jonas’

ah, someone else than me merged them

  29. Kev

Sorry, here now. One of those days.

  30. jonas’

and something is off about them, I’ll have to check closely, cannot do it right now.

  31. jonas’

there’s this: [Standards] Proposed XMPP Extension: Message Moderation

  32. jonas’

that has been announced after the previous meeting

  33. jonas’

so I’ll add it to the agenda

  34. jonas’

    anyways

  35. jonas’

    3) Items for a vote

  36. jonas’

3a) Proposed XMPP Extension: Message Moderation

  37. jonas’

    https://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/message-moderation.html

  38. jonas’

(this is incorrectly marked as Experimental, which is also why things break in my tooling)

  39. jonas’

I haven’t looked at all into it yet, so on-list.

  40. Link Mauve

    Me neither, so on list.

  41. Ge0rG

    on-list it is

  42. jonas’

    Kev, dwd?

  43. Link Mauve

jonas’, neither of them are here.

  44. Kev

    On-list.

  45. Link Mauve

    Oh?

  46. jonas’

Link Mauve, kev said he is :)

  47. Kev

I hadn't even noticed the announcement.

  48. Link Mauve

    Oh, I missed Kev’s message. :D

  49. Kev

    Bad me.

  50. jonas’

    okay, going to skip dave

  51. jonas’

AFAIK those are all items we have for a vote

  52. jonas’

    4) Activiyt Summary

  53. Ge0rG

    did anything time out?

  54. jonas’

There have been updates to XEPs according to Tedd: Updated: XEP-0060 (Publish-Subscribe), and XEP-0280 (Message Carbons) New: XEP-0422 (Message Fastening), and XEP-0423 (XMPP Compliance Suites 2020)

  55. jonas’

    5) Outstanding Votes

  56. jonas’

    PR #824 https://github.com/xsf/xeps/pull/824

  57. jonas’

everyone is on-list, so we’re all to blame

  58. jonas’

Proposed XMPP Extension: Authorization Tokens - https://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/auth-tokens.html is missing votes by Ge0rG, Link Mauve and me (and Kev who defaults to -1)

  59. jonas’

does anyone want to cast votes now?

  60. jonas’

(they are not expiring until next week)

  61. Link Mauve

Still on list for me, I haven’t had the time to look at it in Sweden.

  62. jonas’

    understandable

  63. Ge0rG

    still on-list

  64. jonas’

    moving on

  65. jonas’

    6) Date of Next

  66. jonas’

    +1w wfm

  67. Ge0rG

I have a travel day in +1W, but I hope to not be moving and be available at Meeting Time

  68. jonas’

    noted

  69. pep.

I'll send a note for the agenda next time I publish a XEP sorry

  70. pep.

    /merge

  71. jonas’

    Link Mauve, Kev?

  72. Link Mauve

I shouldn’t have any issue on that day.

  73. jonas’

moving on for the sake of having a few minutes for AOB

  74. jonas’

    7) AOB

  75. jonas’

    (I don’t have any)

  76. jonas’

    oh, I do

  77. Ge0rG

I have a bag of AOBs

  78. jonas’

wanted to note that I had a meeting with MattJ regarding the registries

  79. Ge0rG

    Tell us more!

  80. jonas’

we have figured out a way forward, I just need to collect the motivation to do it

  81. jonas’

it’ll be similar to the xeps repository with docker and whatnot

  82. jonas’

I’ll try to get around to do this the next few days, I was mostly busy with search.jabber.network in the past week

  83. jonas’

    end of my AOB

  84. jonas’ hands the mic to Ge0rG

  85. jonas’

(with a friendly reminder of my hard deadline at 15:30Z)

  86. Ge0rG

I am still seeking inputs for CS-2020

  87. Ge0rG

I know that Council technically is required to contribute, but it would be great nevertheless

  88. jonas’

(is there a "not" missing in that sentence? ;) )

  89. Ge0rG

I am still seeking responses to the "Persisting Message Errors" thread

  90. Ge0rG

    jonas’: yes

  91. jonas’

Ge0rG, can you summarize real quick what’s missing for CS-2020?

  92. Ge0rG

jonas’: new XEPs to mandate; a better intro text; real content for the Future section

  93. jonas’

    right

  94. Ge0rG detected that it's missing XEP-0245, which we should mandate for basic IM

  95. jonas’

I’ll have to look at the draft to reply to this

  96. jonas’

which I can’t reasonably do right now

  97. Ge0rG

XEP-0286 makes *some* sense for Mobile.

  98. Ge0rG

jonas’: you could provide opinion on whether XEP-0300 should be somewhere in the CS

  99. jonas’

given that time is pressing on this matter, I suggest that all council members will take a look at CS-2020 material give Ge0rG the input he needs.

  100. jonas’

Ge0rG, I don’t think that XEP-0300 on its own makes sense to have in CS. It’s a building block for other XEPs.

  101. Ge0rG

    jonas’: great!

  102. Ge0rG removes 0300 from his todo list

  103. jonas’

any remaining AOB which fits in the next 5min?

  104. Ge0rG

    No.

  105. Ge0rG

    Oh, wait.

  106. jonas’

    okay. sorry for that.

  107. jonas’

    8) Ite Meeting Est

  108. jonas’

    thanks all

  109. jonas’

sorry for rushing it a bit

  110. Ge0rG

I want to make CS2020 active before the Christmas holidays.

  111. Ge0rG

Not sure whether to make it the last vote in current council or the first vote in 2020 council

  112. dwd

    jonas’, Thanks!

  113. Kev

    Thanks all.

  114. Kev

Sorry I'm both busy today, and ill, again.

  115. dwd

Ge0rG, I'd aim for this one, if we can.

  116. Kev

I'll be back on normal noisy form at some point.

  117. Ge0rG

dwd: Council election is on 2019-11-21, which means we have to vote on November 6th latest, to not get problems from expiring Council members.

  118. jonas’

    Kev, get better soon :)

  119. Kev

Ta. It's just a cold, which I thought I was over and then went for a run today and the cold decided it Would Not Go Quietly Into The Night, so now ... you don't need details.

  120. jonas’

fun, I have a similar story sitting next to me on the sofa. so yeah.

  121. jcbrand

Hi, I'd just like to mention that the message retractions protoXEP was announced something like 2 or 3 years ago, so you wouldn't have noticed that recently. The message moderation protoXEP *was* announced last week.

  122. Kev

    "I didn't notice" doesn't imply the needful wasn't done.

  123. jcbrand

    Yep, just clarifying
