XMPP Council - 2021-10-27

  1. jonas’

Welcome to today's session of the MPP Council

  2. jonas’

    1) Roll Call

  3. Ge0rG

    What does MPP stand for?

  4. Zash

    Oh look at the time

  5. jonas’

    nobody knows

  6. Zash

where we decide the fate of EPs

  7. daniel

    Hi

  8. jonas’

    do we get a dwd?

  9. jonas’

    let's see

  10. jonas’

    2) Agenda Bashing

  11. jonas’

I seem to have sent an agenda this time, which is good

  12. Zash

    You dropped something

  13. jonas’

please raise any complaints and additions during the session

  14. jonas’

    3) Editor's Update

  15. jonas’

    Nothing in particular

  16. jonas’

    4) Items for Voting

  17. jonas’

4a) Decide on Advancement of XEP-0313 URL: https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0313.html With the LC feedback integrated, let's vote on it!

  18. Ge0rG

    I'm frightened by that.

  19. jonas’

    +1.

  20. jonas’

    +1 for advancing '313.

  21. daniel

    +1

  22. Zash

    +1

  23. jonas’

    (oh no, Ge0rG is typing)

  24. Ge0rG

-0. I've promised not to block this XEP, and it's an urgently needed thing that's widely implemented, but it's still far away from a good XEP.

  25. jonas’

    thanks

  26. jonas’

    no dwd, so moving on

  27. jonas’

    5) Pending Votes

  28. jonas’

    none, afaik

  29. jonas’

    6) Date of Next

  30. Ge0rG

I'm glad that parts of my LC feedback were addressed, but I wish I could see all the other loose ends come together.

  31. dwd

    Ugh, sorry.

  32. jonas’

    oh, a dwd

  33. dwd

But you're also moving very fast. :-)

  34. jonas’

dwd, must be the sugar rush from the hot chocolate I made just now :)

  35. Ge0rG

dwd: your last chance to let 0313 have as many LCs as 0280.

  36. dwd

+1 to advance '313. For a terrible XEP, it certainly seems like a lot of people rely on it.

  37. jonas’

    there we go, '313 done

  38. Zash

    ÄNTLIGEN! 🎉️

  39. jonas’

how long were those in the making? longer than we had Angela Merkel?

  40. jonas’

the year of the changes it seems.

  41. Ge0rG

jonas’: the first LC of 0280 I took part in was in 2015.

  42. jonas’

first version of 313 was 2012

  43. jonas’

so only a bit more than half a Merkel era

  44. daniel

    That's only 0.5 angelas

  45. jonas’

    ^5

  46. dwd

I recall '280 being proposed by Joe Hildebrand in, the 1970s.

  47. dwd

    Maybe.

  48. Zash

What thing from the '60s should we invent next?

  49. jonas’

    daylight saving time!

  50. dwd

I'm thinking of proposing a new round form of rotating locomotive device.

  51. jonas’

    6) Date of Next

  52. jonas’

+1w on the calendar, noting that we have a DST failover this weekend

  53. jonas’

meaning that the next meeting would be on 2021-11-03 16:00:00Z

  54. jonas’

while looking at the date, I notice that I may actually be AFK on that afternoon

  55. Ge0rG

    Did UK exit from DST?

  56. jonas’

nothing stops me from preparing an agenda though

  57. Ge0rG

jonas’: the MPP Council would be very grateful.

  58. jonas’

    :)

  59. jonas’

everyone in for 2021-11-03 16:00:00Z other than that?

  60. Ge0rG

jonas’: are there any news re Compliance Suite 2022?

  61. jonas’

Ge0rG, no, let's AOB that one

  62. Zash

    wfm

  63. Ge0rG

    sounds good

  64. jonas’

daniel, dwd, 2021-11-03 16:00:00Z works for you, too?

  65. dwd

    Oh, yes.

  66. daniel

    Yes

  67. jonas’

    perfect

  68. jonas’

    7) AOB

  69. jonas’

    7a) CS-2022

  70. jonas’

author promised an update by the end of last week, didn't happen and I was preoccupied with other stuff so I didn't follow up until just now

  71. jonas’

    no reply yet, unsurprisingly

  72. Ge0rG

We still have a few more weeks until The Election.

  73. jonas’

    we do

  74. jonas’

    let's see how this goes

  75. jonas’

    7b) Elections

  76. jonas’

    speaking of

  77. Ge0rG

    I suggest pi...

  78. jonas’

    Ge0rG, suggest what?

  79. jonas’

sorry to have cut you off

  80. jonas’

(should keep an eye on typing notifications…)

  81. Ge0rG

jonas’: you are way too fast. How much coffeine was in that chocolate?

  82. dwd

    He suggests Pi.

  83. jonas’

Ge0rG, none, but lots of sugar

  84. Zash

    caffeinated chocolate?

  85. Ge0rG

I suggest pinging the author again and kindly ask them to finish until next Council, or to approve a document shepherd

  86. jonas’

I pinged them jus now :)

  87. jonas’

I pinged them just now :)

  88. jonas’

    (as I wrote above)

  89. jonas’

I'm going to try to stay on top of things this week, second half of last week was "fun" for $reasons.

  90. Ge0rG

Ah, the "until just now" part was too subtle for me.

  91. jonas’

    :)

  92. Ge0rG

I still volunteer to shepherd, but it would be good to have a few days advance notice so that I can actually prepare a PR.

  93. jonas’

    Ge0rG, ack

  94. jonas’

Ge0rG, as a fallback, would you watch xsf/xeps for a PR against 2022, and if there's nothing until friday ping me about it again?

  95. jonas’

(which means it's good enough if you just check on friday)

  96. Ge0rG

November 10th is the point of no return for accepting it, right?

  97. jonas’

    yes

  98. Ge0rG

jonas’: I can manage that, yes.

  99. jonas’

for starting the vote to accept it

  100. jonas’

    Ge0rG, thanks!

  101. jonas’

    alright

  102. jonas’

    7b) Elections

  103. jonas’

    I hear we haven'g got

  104. Ge0rG adds cryptic note to calendar

  105. jonas’

I hear we haven't got any candidate standing yet

  106. jonas’

I intend to run, but by now am pretty sure that I don't want to chair again.

  107. jonas’

    just as a heads up

  108. jonas’

judging from the comments in xsf@, we do need to start an explicit recruiting effort.

  109. jonas’

I'm going to send a mail to the list for that

  110. Ge0rG

Technically, the chair doesn't need to be a Council member. They could be an outside bureaucrat.

  111. jonas’

    interesting

  112. dwd

Ge0rG, That's not true for Council, AFAIK.

  113. Zash

    Make memberbot do it!

  114. Ge0rG

    Bummer.

  115. jonas’

but even if -- getting a sixth person to appear reliably at meetings sounds like quite a challeng

  116. jonas’

but even if -- getting a sixth person to appear reliably at meetings sounds like quite a challenge

  117. dwd

Ge0rG, It *is* true for Board, though.

  118. dwd

But I think it would be surprising.

  119. Ge0rG

Well, I also intend to run but don't have the time capacity to chair.

  120. dwd

Ge0rG, If you do intend to run it would be useful to put your name on the page.

  121. dwd

Ge0rG, There's a much greater likelihood of having more people on if someone starts the list going.

  122. dwd

    Same goes for you, jonas’.

  123. Zash

Quietly paste the entire membership list into the election page, and whoever doesn't yell NO! quickly enough gets to Council. Just like in all the other organizations and associations I've been in. 🙂

  124. Ge0rG

dwd: that was the most convincing argument so far. I've added my name to the list.

  125. jonas’

    dwd, done!

  126. jonas’

    any other AOB?

  127. Zash

    none from me

  128. jonas’

7c) Don't give Jonas hot chocolate right before meeting time

  129. jonas’

    duly noted.

  130. jonas’

    8) Ite Meeting Est

  131. Ge0rG

    Thanks jonas’

  132. jonas’

    thanks everyone, thanks Tedd

  133. daniel

    Thanks jonas’

  134. Zash

Thanks jonas’, thanks Tedd, thanks all!

  135. me9
