I'm heading to London for the IETF meeting. There is a MIMI session tomorrow morning at 9:30am. Remote attendance is possible (you have to register as an attendee, but don't have to pay). Session details and materials are here: https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/115/agenda/?filters=mimi
-
MattJ
For some context on MIMI, check your email archives for a summary I sent some months ago after the last meeting
-
MattJ
As far as I'm aware, I'll be the only person present participating with a strong XMPP background, so additional folk would be welcome :)
-
jonas’
not sure if I can make it happen work-wise
-
MattJ
It would probably help balance the "just use Matrix for this" stirrings in the group
-
jonas’
and what level of argumentation is going on there?
-
jonas’
also, which timezone?
-
emus
MattJ: can you send the suggetsion to @members?
-
MattJ
I meant to write UTC, sorry
-
MattJ
The one true zone
-
jonas’
ack
-
jonas’
two hours, uff

I checked and it looks like i do nave to pay. Also i dont have an account which may be the issue 🤔
-
emus
pay? 🤔
-
emus
anyway - can XSF take the bill?
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
Not sure. I saw that maybe i can sign up. Will check later :)
-
emus
about how much money do we talk?
-
emus
MattJ: and thanks Matt for doing this. if I can support you a likely non-technical level let me know
-
Kev
You shouldn’t have to pay for remote participation.
-
jonas’
that's what's written there though
-
jonas’
Kev, https://registration.ietf.org/115/
-
emus
We should the same...
-
Zash
$800 to attend Summit?
-
emus
😶🌫️
-
emus
anyway, I would still advocate to have people from us there
-
jonas’
MattJ will be at least :-)
-
emus
I'd prefer at least two
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
I registered to be tommorow at the mim session.
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
Bear in mind though that i am far from knowledgable and my internet may or may not be down tomorrow
-
jonas’
MSavoritias (fae,ve), did you pay the $125 or what?
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
No it was free
-
jonas’
uh-uh
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
I logged in and it said pick session and i picked the mim one
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
Is there anything else to do?
-
Zash
What the UX?
-
emus
MSavoritias (fae,ve): awesome
-
jonas’
we should try to not be *too* many
-
jonas’
I'll see that I can register for tomorrow, things at work went well today so that I can break that time out
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
Wait how many people are going to be there?
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
Am i supposed to talk or something there?
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
This is my first time getting involved there..
-
emus
MSavoritias (fae,ve) jonas’: maybe still you can post this in the chat and ask for people with explicit strong background
-
jonas’
emus, like in the council chat? :-)
-
Kev
Yes, that's what Matt did by asking Council.
-
jonas’
where the community-elected people wtih strong technical background are?
-
Kev
(And a couple of others by mail)
-
emus
jonas’: haha
-
emus
ok fine
-
Zash
There are lists if you click Onsite Participants and Remote Participants at https://www.ietf.org/how/meetings/115/
-
emus
can someone answer to MSavoritias (fae,ve)
-
flow
MSavoritias (fae,ve), you can alos just quietly lurk around✎ -
flow
MSavoritias (fae,ve), you can also just quietly lurk around ✏
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
Okay that was my plan. Unless of course i can offer any insight
-
emus
MSavoritias (fae,ve): can you point for others here where you could register fro free
-
jonas’
13:09:49 MSavoritias (fae,ve)> I logged in and it said pick session and i picked the mim one
-
emus
ah ok
-
emus
missed
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
Yeah. Here: https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/115/agenda
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
> Kev: > You shouldn’t have to pay for remote participation. Actually im not sure this is true. Because here it says i have to pay: https://registration.ietf.org/115
-
flow
In my experience IETF meetings where a lot like hybrid FOSDEM lately
-
flow
where you can just watch the livestream and join the related chat
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
Yeah i joined the group chat
-
Zash
https://www.ietf.org/forms/115-registration-fee-waiver/ > We make an unlimited number of fee waivers available to remote participants but > Please note that it can take up to 2 days to receive your fee waiver.
-
flow
if you go to https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/115/agenda and search for 'mimi', then there are the links to the live stream and the chat room. I am not sure what a paid registration additionally provides
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
Yeah that was my question too. Especially for remote
-
jonas’
ability to speak maybe?
-
flow
possibly, but IMHO unlikely as it would not feel within the spirit of the IETF
-
Zash
Watching without formally attending does seem possible.
-
flow
but maybe that is just wishfull thinking on my end
-
Zash
At least, some seemed to be streamed?
-
Zash
https://www.ietf.org/live/
-
flow
in any case, there are unlimited remote participation fee waivers, as zash posted. even though they state that it could take 2 days to get those processed, I can't hurt to try to get one
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
Through datatracker i have: Full client with video Onsite tool Audio stream So i will see qhat they are. And i have the chat too
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
flow: You were optimistic. I cant access the feeds say unathorized. So if the waiver comes by tomorrow i can attend. Otherwise nope :(
-
MSavoritias (fae,ve)
But i can be in the chat
-
flow
hmm, maybe the feeds need to live to access them? well see soon :)✎ -
