XMPP Council - 2022-11-09

  1. jonas’

MattJ, MSavoritias (fae,ve), I'm getting a 401 Unauthorized on the full client because of lack of proper registration.

  2. jonas’

the audio stream seems to 404

  3. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

Yeah that sounds like the thing i had yesterday. Im still waiting for an email for the waiver

  4. jonas’

    I didn't apply for one :/

  5. Kev

Jonas if Council need to spend $50 to attend this, I have no doubt the XSF will reimburse.

  6. jonas’

$125 (I'm no student), and 3 minutes before the meeting might be a *bit* short notice

  7. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

    Yeah true.

  8. Kev

I'm sure the XSF would spend $125 to have one of Council there, too.

  9. MattJ

    Definitely

  10. Kev

I meant to register and read the docs yesterday, but I had a bit of a day of it with health things, so I didn't.

  11. jonas’

is it worth trying this now?

  12. jonas’

and hoping that it resolves in time?

  13. jonas’

I mean that the regstiration takes effect in time

  14. MSavoritias (fae,ve)

I got my free waiver actually so i will ve able to join

  15. jonas’

    ok, paid and joined

  16. Kev

    Thanks Jonas.

  17. emus

    👍👍👍

  18. emus

Please take some notes and report to the members 🙏🙏🙏

  19. Ge0rG

I'm currently on a train and in a phone conference, at least one of those two imediments might cease until 1700CET

  20. daniel

Hi. Sorry I'm currently stranded in the middle of nowhere and the train that's supposed to take me home is canceled. I'm not gonna make it in time for the meeting

  21. daniel

If someone else could chair this would be great. Imho it would be good to start voting on the new xeps

  22. daniel

I do have cell phone connection but I also need to figure out how go get home

  23. jonas’

    daniel: I can take over

  24. jonas’

    I'll be home in 10mins

  25. daniel

    jonas’: thank you

  26. jonas’

    o/

  27. moparisthebest

    hello

  28. jonas’

  34. jonas’

    do we have a moparisthebest, a Ge0rG, a larma, a daniel?

  35. larma

    👋

  36. moparisthebest

    yep

  37. jonas’

that's a quorum at least. I suspect daniel and Ge0rG may be stuck in transportation-related difficulties, so I'll slowly get started anyway

  38. jonas’

    2) Agenda Bashing

  39. jonas’

    assuming nothing to bash

  40. jonas’

  46. larma

    on-list

  47. jonas’

the others seem absent, so moving on

  48. jonas’

    b) Proposed XMPP Extension: Pubsub Signing: OpenPGP Profile (https://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/pubsub-signing-openpgp.html)

  49. jonas’

I suspect it may be worth looking at c) first

  50. jonas’

+1 on the condition that c) is accepted

  51. jonas’

any other votes, or shall we do c) first?

  52. moparisthebest

    on-list on both b) and c)

  53. larma

I'm +1 on b/c/d, they're not perfect, but nothing that can't be handled after accept

  54. jonas’

    ack

  55. jonas’

    c) Proposed XMPP Extension: Pubsub Signing (https://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/pubsub-signing.html)

  59. jonas’

    … I forgot to vote on c)

  60. moparisthebest

    on-list

  61. Ge0rG

Sorry, I'm stuck in traffic chaos and can't follow here.

  62. moparisthebest

(was going to mention that you forgot to vote on c) lol)

  63. jonas’

Ge0rG, thanks for the notice, good drive

  64. MattJ

FWIW from speaking to folk at the IETF meeting, there is some desire to solve the SCRAM upgrade stuff in a generic cross-protocol way. Doesn't mean we can't accept the XEP as experimental, but it could end up being changed somewhat.

  65. MattJ

Sorry for the latency, typing on mobile

  66. moparisthebest

    nice, thanks MattJ

  67. jonas’

MattJ, that's what experimental is for :-)

  68. jonas’

and actually that would be the best outcome :)

  69. jonas’

    +1 on c)

  70. jonas’

    I'm not sure yet about d), I'll be on-list

  71. jonas’

    e) Proposed XMPP Extension: Fast Authentication Streamlining Tokens (https://xmpp.org/extensions/inbox/xep-fast.html)

  72. moparisthebest

    on-list again

  73. tmolitor

    a) and e) are both depending on the pending sasl2 update, BTW.

  74. larma

    on-list

  75. jonas’

    tmolitor, which kind of "pending"?

  76. jonas’

    blocking on whom?

  77. jonas’

    +1 on e)

  78. tmolitor

    Dave's feedback is pending

  79. jonas’

ok, I haven't heard back from dave, which isn't great

  80. jonas’

    I hope he's fine

  81. tmolitor

    Mattj has, i think

  82. jonas’

    ah ok

  83. jonas’

    moving on then

  84. jonas’

    5) Date of Next

  85. jonas’

+1w wfm, though it's a public holiday here which makes me prone of forgetting about it :)

  86. moparisthebest

    +1w wfm

  87. tmolitor

Dave seems to be very busy atm

  88. jonas’

+1w wfm, though it's a public holiday here which makes me prone to forgetting about it :)

  89. jonas’

tmolitor, I'll get in touch with MattJ separately when he's back from the IETF stress and get a gauge on whether dwd can/should/will continue and then we can address this next week.

  90. jonas’

    larma, next week?

  91. jonas’

    larma, +1w wfy?

  92. larma

    Yes

  93. jonas’

    great

  94. jonas’

    6) AOB

  95. jonas’

6a) MIMI WG in the IETF

  96. jonas’

just a quick report that I attended the BoF session for the More Instant Messaging Interop working group in the IETF remotely today (MattJ was there in person).

  97. moparisthebest

thanks everyone here that attended that for doing so by the way, much appreciated

  98. jonas’

I'll try to keep up with what's going on there as it seems very interesting and something we need to keep an eye on XMPP-wise

  99. tmolitor

    jonas’: great

  100. jonas’

it was mostly charter discussion though, and I learnt more about the IETF process than anything substantial about MIMI :)

  101. MattJ

I'll post another update about MIMI to the list soon

  102. jonas’

yep, I suspect you have more insights as you can talk to people :-)

  103. jonas’

    great

  104. jonas’

    any other AOB?

  105. moparisthebest

    not here

  106. jonas’

taking the silence and lack of chat state notifications as a "no"

  107. jonas’

    7) Ite Meeting Est

  108. jonas’

    Thanks everyone!

  109. moparisthebest

    thanks jonas’ and all

  110. tmolitor

    Thanks jonas’

  111. larma

    Thanks jonas’

  112. jonas’

I forgot to mention my favourite sentence from the BoF session

  113. jonas’

    > I remember the days before SMTP dominated

  114. jonas’

that's a sentence you hear rarely

  115. Zash

    Know if it was recorded?

  116. Kev

As a company that still sells X.400 systems...

  117. jonas’

    Zash, don't know, sorry

  118. Zash

Looks like there's a video recording, linked from https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/115/agenda/

  119. Ge0rG

daniel: you don't happen to be stuck around Siegburg/Bonn? Or is there another, separate public transportation nightmare happening?

  120. daniel

    Ge0rG: that's exactly were I was

  121. daniel

Luckily emphasis on the was. I'm home now

  122. Ge0rG

daniel: happy to hear that, I'm still another four to five hours away from my destination

  123. daniel

Ge0rG: are the trains running again?

  124. Ge0rG

daniel: yes, according to the bird site, the rampage situation was resolved roughly haf an hour ago.
