FWIW from speaking to folk at the IETF meeting, there is some desire to solve the SCRAM upgrade stuff in a generic cross-protocol way. Doesn't mean we can't accept the XEP as experimental, but it could end up being changed somewhat.

just a quick report that I attended the BoF session for the More Instant Messaging Interop working group in the IETF remotely today (MattJ was there in person).

I'll try to keep up with what's going on there as it seems very interesting and something we need to keep an eye on XMPP-wise
