larma: I assume your merged PR means I should put accepting this as stable on tomorrows agenda?

daniel
Or do you want to wait another week for feedback to trickle in

larma
I think I sufficiently covered all the feedback, but I guess Council needs to decide

Kev
I think it makes sense for the community to see the result of their feedback, personally.

Interestingly, I found that back in 2002 jep1 was changed to not allow anonymous authors and require first name and last name for all authors.

First and last name? Classic https://www.kalzumeus.com/2010/06/17/falsehoods-programmers-believe-about-names/

Ironically, in his list, he doesn't even claim that not everyone tends to have at least one way to display themselves using a fist name and last name - even if that is just to deal with tech systems that require that 😉

So it's not even unreasonable to ask for first name and last name, because it works for everyone, because those that don't have exactly one first or last name know how they express their names for such situation.

I, for one, welcome all our new XEP authors named John Doe

larma
Fine by me as well, as long as we can still identify them by the set of data they provide (first name, last name, email, jid) 🙂

larma
It's a totally valid name after all

Expressing names contextually is a valid point. I'm a Dan in most situations. If my wife is unhappy with me, I'm a Daniel, possibly with intonation that's difficult to convey typographically.

If she's very unhappy perhaps she addresses you a totally different way :)
