I asked the question yesterday in the XSF but didn't got answers. 0424 dropped the support of Message Fastening but not 0425, is there a specific reason for it ?

  2. edhelas

Just wanted to know if I could simply drop fastening in general or if the other clients still have it for 0425

Denshi, note that even copying the OMEMO key will not give you access to old conversations.

  4. jonas’

OMEMO is what they call forward secure, which also means that you cannot decrypt old messages on new devices even when copying the key

  5. jonas’

and XMPP has no protocol to sync plaintext messages from an old to a new device, but some clients have support for that (conversations for instance, as MSavoritias (fae,ve) pointed out)

    edhelas, no clue :x

edhelas: at summit we discussed dropping everywhere. Probably just needs the drafting to happen

  8. singpolyma

Then get rid of fastening xep

  9. singpolyma

The logic was it doesn't help becasue too many xep don't use it already

  10. edhelas

Okay, I'll wait a bit :) Because I have a comon code for both XEP and I'd prefer to not have some kind of in-between hack

  11. singpolyma

Yeah, same for me. I'm just still using fasteneng for now since its easier
