I suppose it would be good to add a character limitation to the moderation bot too.

We should write a XEP to limit messages to 140 characters.

Jabber is not SMS *The Problem* > Jabber messages decay more and more towards short messages — without full sentences, without punctuation, and with a lot of ambiguous abbreviations, et cetera which leads to misunderstanding and the necessity to ask for details or how the message should be interpreted. *The Solution* > Take the time and write all Jabber messages like real letters: write what you want to express; keep an eye on style, language and grammar; do not forget punctuation or salutation; avoid ambiguous abbreviations; and proof-read the message at least once before sending or publishing. https://jabber.is-not-s.ms/

    > all Jabber messages regardless of reader or subject will be as long and detailed as necessary and not castrated by arbitrary and artifical limits which just needlessly cripple this medium. AFAIK there is no standard limit on message size so servers limit it arbitrarily.

  9. doge

and is there a way to even check it? Especially when the recipient is on another server, that'd mean checking with their server too... and their client I guess...

cal0pteryx. How is it, that the moderated messages of guest33275 do not appear in the logs file of Gajim?

  12. cal0pteryx

Schimon: probably purged from the server archive before the client fetched messages

  13. Schimon

Or, I was not present in the group chat when it has occurred.

  14. cal0pteryx

    That's what I was implying

  15. Schimon

    Thank you.

    > Message content unknown What is the XEP which is of message moderation?

  17. Schimon

    > Message content unknown What is the number of the XEP which is of message moderation?

  18. flow

I wonder if people would ask this if we used shortnames instead of numbers as primary XEP identification

  19. cal0pteryx

Schimon: there is a search on xmpp.org/extensions

  20. Schimon

cal0pteryx. flow. I understand. And thank you.

  21. Schimon

I thought of aking here, just in case, I find the wrong XEP.

  22. Schimon

    I will search for it.

  23. flow

Schimon, asking here is perfectly fine. what I tried to express is that I find shortnames easier to remember than numbers. but unfortunately we tend to use the xep numbers

  24. Link Mauve

Having grown up with Pokémon, the number → something association has been pretty easy for me, probably more than some short names.

  25. Link Mauve

    MUC or PubSub being exceptions.

  26. Cynthia

    you memorize the pokedex?

  27. Link Mauve

I once did yeah, up until gen 3 or so.

  28. Link Mauve

    Didn’t everyone?

  29. Schimon

    > Schimon, asking here is perfectly fine. what I tried to express is that I find shortnames easier to remember than numbers. but unfortunately we tend to use the xep numbers flow. Pardon. I thought of it in an different context. I am for numbers. I think it is a good idea to utilize numbers.

  30. Schimon

    > Didn’t everyone? Link Mauve. I have counted three two five people, and they were, you, pep. mathieui and a few more interesting figures.

    Not in numbers, of course.
