    > or they can clicky clicky spend nothing and get what they want. it's hard to compete with that for many Ugh. Spending the time to learn writing a GitHub action (hours? Days?) versus spending $5 and being done in 5min? Or just use the NAS you already have. Synology NAS can do a lot more than store data!

Synology NAS can do a lot more than store data! 1. spend 5 bucks (this might be a huge sum, depending on where you are from) 2. learn the weird, obsolete one of a kind cron syntax. 3. Setup local mail system so you get notifications about failures 4. Did I forget anything?

  3. kalkin

If you want to do it local, learn at least a modern sane approach like systemd timers.

  4. erik

GitHub schedules use the same syntax as Cron

  5. flow

right, cron syntax is used in many places. I wouldn't call the syntax obsolete just because systemd timers use a different syntax

  6. nephele

the problem with cron isn’t really it’s config file format ;)

  7. moparisthebest

kalkin: your cron emails you? How retro, mine sends XMPP messages

    > kalkin: your cron emails you? How retro, mine sends XMPP messages with such reliability issues it'd suit to duplicate elsewhere..

    > kalkin: your cron emails you? How retro, mine sends XMPP messages That's nice. How did you do that?

    >> kalkin: your cron emails you? How retro, mine sends XMPP messages > with such reliability issues it'd suit to duplicate elsewhere.. What is unreliable? Cron? Email? XMPP?

  17. kalkin

Knowing doge he probably meant xmpp

  18. qy

i wouldn't be surprised if singpolyma was right, tbh

  19. doge
