singpolyma: am I remembering right that Cheogram Android has a feature to attempt to rejoin MUCs where we briefly lost touch with the MUC server? if yes what is that down/reconnect algorithm like?
-
singpolyma
It's the normal self ping system. It pings very infrequently like 10 or 15 minutes to not touch battery too much, preferring to ping when radio is already active if possible.

Does any XMPP client have a feature to mute users in MUCs?
-
hyol
For Linux and Android

Is there a protocol for syncing mutes between devices that any client supports?
-
moparisthebest
Not in a muc no

> Is there a protocol for syncing mutes between devices that any client supports? blocklist exists, still ↺
-
qy
not very ergonomic, clients tend not to sugar it
-
qy
but it exists
-
hyol
Only applies to 1:1
-
singpolyma
It applies to MUC too if you're ok to block by nickname
-
hyol
Apparently Gajim only allows you to mute people if you're a moderator
-
hyol
I want to mute people in rooms I'm not a moderator in
-
singpolyma
That's a different kind of mute
-
hyol
I would call the other kind a *ban* not a "mute"
-
hyol
I've never heard anyone call it a mute
-
singpolyma
No a ban is yet another different thing
-
hyol
Oh
-
singpolyma
Ban means you cannot join. Mute means you cannot talk. Local mute means you cannot see what they say

singpolyma
Three different things
-
moparisthebest
What Cheogram does is what I'd call "ignore" not "mute"
-

such a misunderstood feature
-
qy
by users and client devs alike
-

hyol: Cheogram's clientside mute is like an IRC /ignore
-
wgreenhouse
there's no standard XEP for this yet so no syncing

wgreenhouse
though I guess any client could stuff the list into a PEP node
