hello adbalde20, this is where the people who run XMPP servers themselves hang out
-
tom
It's a useful place to find information or just hang out in
-
adbalde20
Whoa what?
-
tom
what part didn't you understand?
-
adbalde20
Cool, this is that same group?
-
tom
yes, turns out I didn't have to type it out. I could just invite you to it
-
tom
question for anyone in general, Do I need to host my own server or ask a operator if I want to make a new conference?
-
tom
I want to add a bridging bot to the XMPP network, help a group of people on a propritary walled garden instant messaging network slowly transition to using XMPP
-
tom
I figured bridging would be the best way to do that
-
oli
tom: which walled garden?
-
tom
oli, Telegram
-
oli
und die bridge funktioniert als user oder als component?
-
Ge0rG
tom: you can of course ask any friendly server admin to run a component for you, but if you want to run it yourself, you'll need a server or https://github.com/dwd/Metre as a proxy
-
oli
matterbridge does run as a user
-
oli
Ge0rG: how would that work with Metre? It would independently and only serve the component?
-
Ge0rG
oli: I think matterbridge is a huge hack, and I don't know whether it's actually an XMPP *component*
-
oli
Ge0rG: it doesn't look like its a component... The question about Metre ws more about understanding how Metre works.
-
Ge0rG
oli: AFAIU metre is a thin server to run a component
