question for anyone in general, Do I need to host my own server or ask a operator if I want to make a new conference?

I want to add a bridging bot to the XMPP network, help a group of people on a propritary walled garden instant messaging network slowly transition to using XMPP

I figured bridging would be the best way to do that

matterbridge does run as a user

Ge0rG: how would that work with Metre? It would independently and only serve the component?

oli: I think matterbridge is a huge hack, and I don't know whether it's actually an XMPP *component*

Ge0rG: it doesn't look like its a component... The question about Metre ws more about understanding how Metre works.
