    pep. I installed prosody on a VirtualBox(Ubuntu) on my Mac. How do I get the first 2 items here done (https://homebrewserver.club/configuring-a-modern-xmpp-server.html) ? 1. Set up firewall and DNS and enabling HTTPS

    That depends on your distro, see the firewall settings, UFW or whatnot, allow access to 5222 5444 5269 and such

    Licaon_Kter After that how do I get the client (a JS script (Strophe) running on my mac (host) to connect to the server on the ubuntu(guest on VM) ?

    Virtualbox use network as Bridging, so it gets an IP in your network. Then point whatever client you use to that ip Eg. You can use xip.io like 192.168.100.3.xip.io to make it look more like a real server.

    One piece of advice, verify it working ok with a proper client first (Conversations, Dino, Gajim, Monal whatever) then make your own client ;)
