  6. CognitiveDissonance

    Hi all

  7. CognitiveDissonance

Among the operators here, how many of you tried operating both xmpp and matrix? What are your general views/opinions?

  8. Martin

    Ask muppeth from dismail. 😂

  9. Martin

    Ask muppeth from disroot. 😂

  10. CognitiveDissonance

    hmm.

  11. CognitiveDissonance

    no one else?

  12. CognitiveDissonance

    perflyst ?

  13. perflyst

i do run it but only with a handful users (database is 20gb+ already though) there is an article about matrix in disroots blog

  14. perflyst

better than 2 years ago but still a beast compared to xmpp Dendrite (the new go implementation) will probably reach beta state in a few weeks

  15. Licaon_Kter

perflyst: > As of August 2020 we're at around 52% CS API coverage and 65% Federation coverage Any minute now...

  16. raghavgururajan

    Licaon_Kter: Who are 'we' here?

  17. Licaon_Kter

    Read above...

  18. raghavgururajan

    Ah never mind

  19. perflyst

Licaon_Kter: well, what is the xep coverage of ejabberd?

  20. perflyst

i know everyone likes matrix bashing but they dont do everything wrong (and they have $$)

  21. Licaon_Kter

perflyst: who cares XEPs suck, Matthew said so, monolithic spec is best* *MSC means _Monolithic Spec Change_? :)

  22. Licaon_Kter

perflyst: they sold NewVector for $$ yes

  23. Licaon_Kter

perflyst: monolithic spec means: _its $hit unless you support 100%_ See, this was the argument used by Matthew, _oh, you never know what XEPs the server supports, or the client_

  24. perflyst

you are probably right i see it like this: rather matrix than discord or 10 different accounts on mattermost/rocketchat instances

  25. Licaon_Kter

perflyst: I agree, but we won't be here if Matrix was good already Soon™

  26. mike

It might seem a petty nitpick but one of my biggest issues with matrix is the stupid user ID format. Were they being deliberately different for the sake of change? Did the use case of "I want to tell another human being my address verbally" really not occur to them? user@domain is so well understood ...
