It would probably help if the lack of competition for ISPs in the united states was better, so ISPs wouldn't of completely gutted and/or outsourced all their services they are supposed to be offering to their clients

I meant a community run ISP would be great. A little village could make this with own fiber connections etc.. I would help as engineer xD. But that's too idealistic I guess.

There are such networks, search for mesh ones, but they are few

I considered something similar on a smaller scale, just for my block/street, via an Ethernet link from my ISP, but it seemed a lot of work and expense and unlikely to he sustainable. 😞

Hey all - can anyone recommend an XMPP service that is easy to register and offer a web client? A colleague of mine is telling me that XMPP is hard to engage with and I would like to point him to an easy to use registration to prove differently - what would you recommend?

I mean this doesn't help with the decentralization of the XMPP universe, but in your special case...

I would recommend web.conversations.im or movim.eu for testing. For more you can use https://monocles.de/more/ but it's not for free.
