Hey all (I guess @here is not a thing yet), I'm about to transfer the jabber.network domain to Jonas Schäfer aka Jonas Wielicki aka jonas', who is currently running the search.jabber.network and observe.jabber.network services on it. I just wanted to put this out there to give people a chance to voice objections or suggest alternatives. I don't expect there to be any, but I'll wait a few days just in case.

  3. jonas’ waves

  4. Martin

    No objections from me

  5. Kris

seems like a technical change only, no? Maybe jonas’ can explain if he has further plans with it? I hope not to commercialize it, or add google trackers to the search.jabber.network page 😉

  6. jonas’

Kris, it mainly changes who’s paying for it ;). I don’t intend to commercialize on any of the jabber.network services (nor do I have to).

  7. jonas’

it’s also unrelated to who owns the domain :)

  8. Martin

He doesn't need to own the domain if he wanted ro put trackers there.

  9. Kris

yeah, I was mostly kidding 🙂

  10. jonas’

it also reduces friction when an update needs to be made

  11. Kris

I think the most important stakeholders are the client developers who have integrated the search page in their clients

  12. Kris

but I don't see any of them complaining either

  13. jonas’

since this won’t change (future) reachability, it’ll hopefully be ok

  14. jonas’

there might be a brief disruption though depending on whether we get the zonefile transferred

  15. Licaon_Kter

steven: the poney one? Terrible... :)

  16. steven

Yeah he's already the only user of the domain (I just happened to have registered it at some point), so I don't expect there to be any change in usage. The only difference is that I can't take it down anymore if there would be abuse. But I suppose Jonas has a longer-standing reputation in the community, so that should be a good thing :)

It looks like someone with Google ISP IPs from Kalifornia USA tries to attack monocles again. Isn't there the Googleplex in kalifornia? 😅

  19. Arne

I'm thinking about blocking all google ISP IPs ...

  20. Licaon_Kter

    Arne: did you report them?

  21. steven

Licaon_Kter, where would one report them?

  22. Licaon_Kter

    The hoster of servers?

  23. Arne

I'm hosting myself :). But I wonder where to report? To google? 😅

  24. Arne

The IP really leads me to a google site...

  25. Arne

from another device with a tor browser...

  26. ernst.on.tour

whois "IP" and there should be a abuse-contact ?

  27. Arne

I did, it shows me google

  28. Arne

maybe someone using gcp. I will report them through Tor :D

  29. ernst.on.tour

Contact the abuse-contact ? If they offer only /8 it is their problem to find the right one

  30. Arne

Yes, just did. Still wondering why I'm landing on the google site when entering the IP :D

  31. ernst.on.tour

What did you think should happend when you enter a Google-IP ?

  32. Arne

    nothing else...
