  1. raghavgururajan

    Hello Folks!

  2. raghavgururajan

what is correct naming scheme for DNS configuration?

  3. raghavgururajan

    room/muc/conference? share/proxy?

  4. raghavgururajan

    * room/muc/conference? share/upload/proxy?

  5. Licaon_Kter

raghavgururajan: whatever you want conference is the common one muc is shorter

  6. Licaon_Kter

upload is used more but share has the same meaning

  7. Licaon_Kter

They're not set in store or XEP, afaik

  8. Licaon_Kter

They're not set in stone or XEP, afaik

  9. raghavgururajan

Licaon_Kter: I see. I was wondering if there is established naming convention for consistency?

  10. Licaon_Kter

Some localize them, eg. `salas` for MUCs in Spanish

  11. raghavgururajan

    Ah.

  12. Licaon_Kter

Maybe others can add their thoughts from the room here and make a top :)

  13. flow

no, you are right, there is no "correct" naming here, you have fullest degree of freedom here

  14. flow

I would recommend against 'conference', as it is too long, and 'muc', as it is to technical though

  15. raghavgururajan

    I see.

  16. thndrbvr

    I use muck, lol.

  17. Martin

    chat, proxy and files 🙂

  18. flow

tbf, ideally you don't use a sub-domain for a service whenever possible

  19. Ge0rG

I'm using chat.yax.im and upload.yax.im because those seemed to be short and sufficiently clear

  20. ernst.on.tour

As I recordnice most people assoiciate name@domain.tld as email and try to open outlook/thunderbird/... With name@chat.domain.tld they have a break and think about chat 😉 Then additional @conf.domain.tld for muc jm2c

  21. Ge0rG

ernst.on.tour: IMHO, it's bettter to just have email = JID

  22. ernst.on.tour

Yeah, but email was first and not every email-provider offers also a xmpp

  23. ernst.on.tour

Have a look at @gmx.net or @web.de, there was xmpp possible up to Dec 2015, then they stop offering it.

  24. Ge0rG

Yeah, that's sad. But having two different addresses doesn't make it better

  25. ernst.on.tour

Not better but possible... You may hold your email and just went on to a different JID

  26. Martin

It's sad not everybody can have email == xmpp, but I don't see why shall use a subdomain instead of email == jid if I can have it.

  27. thndrbvr

Can't you set up the DNS to make that work?

  28. tom

    What is the offtopic channel

  29. tom

    Martin: thndrbvr yes

  30. tom

    You can have it

  31. tom

    That's what I do

  32. tom

My email/XMPP/sip address are all the same

  33. tom

Call me on the voip phone =D

  34. tom

    Ring ring
