Are there any current problems with jabber.fr and accessing mucs?

    > me9 wrote: > Are there any current problems with jabber.fr and accessing mucs? Yes

  6. me9

And something else: Why did some people get member status here? Wasn't this a "monarchy" just some days ago?

  7. me9

Wuuko: I am not asking you but the admins.

  8. me9

    Like Link Mauve.

  9. stpeter

Unsure, although typically we don't like to have only one admin because of the bus factor.

  10. stpeter

In any case it's not like there's a power structure here, we're just people chatting about XMPP stuff.

  11. me9

stpeter: Yeah ok. But I'm more intrested in why there are more members. And why only some people? Or am I misremembrering?

  12. stpeter

I'm not sure what you mean by "members" - in my client I see only "moderators" and "participants"

  13. moparisthebest

me9, I *think* people who the bot detects are actual server admins are automatically made member, and it was due to some spam in days past

  14. stpeter

    moparisthebest: ah, interesting

  15. me9

Ok. I'm not tho. Yet. :D

  16. me9

Amd jow should a bot detect your server-admin status? Only if you used the contact JID, I guess.

  17. moparisthebest

me9, do you have this set up https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0157.html

  18. me9

And how should a bot detect your server-admin status? Only if you used the contact JID of your server here, I guess.

  19. me9

    I though :)

  20. me9

    Again, me bee no admin.

  21. me9

    > I wrote: > I though :) *thought

  22. moparisthebest

yes, if your JID is in the list returned by XEP-0157 query

  23. me9

    Uh.

  24. me9

    I'm confused now.

  25. me9

    > I wrote: > Are there any current problems with jabber.fr and accessing mucs? I see it now, in their support muc. But sadly only in French.

  26. stpeter

Well, it *is* jabber.FR after all. ;-)

  27. me9

    I know.

  28. mathieui

me9: our hosting providers main uplink is down and tonight is a busy maintenance night for them

  29. mathieui

    Instability may last all night

  30. me9

    mathieui: Ok, thanks.

  31. mathieui

"Between 10PM and 7AM", probably French time

  32. mathieui

https://twitter.com/Ikoula/status/1420480753981435911 they are having fun at least

  34. mathieui

    (FWIW: https://statut.jabberfr.org/incident/47)

  35. me9

    > me9, I *think* people who the bot detects are actual server admins are automatically made member, and it was due to some spam in days past Can anyone tell me if this is actually what was done?

  36. Menel

Yes it is. Matt said so.

  37. Menel

(And I tested it and it was that way. I added this jid to the support account and became member) But it doesn't really matter, everyone can talk here. Its only if there is spam or something, an easy way to stop it temporary is to grant voice temporary to members only

  38. Menel

    > MattJ "It's based on the contact addresses advertised by your server: https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0152.html" > 12:13:35 > throughaway123 "> The primary focus of this channel is for XMPP server operators to discuss with each other the XMPP network. 39. Menel

Now I'm confused about the difference between xep-0152 and 0157, but thats for another day...

  40. me9

Menel: Ok, well. I guess I'm an admin then.

  41. me9

Menel: Ok, well. I guess I'm an XMPP service operator then.

  42. me9

Its only if there is spam or something, an easy way to stop it temporary is to grant voice temporary to members only That sure is a very effective way to stop spam and it doesn't really matter if it works. But if I became member without owning any server, will others too? So there's something wrong or an admin here just accidentaly made me a member or something. Sorry, but I'm really confused.

  43. Ellenor Malik

How is it decided who is and is not an administrator?
