edhelas: apologies in advance for linking to dirty marketing stuff, but if you're curious what those people are doing, it's this: https://backlinko.com/skyscraper-technique

That skyscraper-technique link nicely shows what's wrong with the centralised, business-oriented internet
-
moparisthebest
that's just a problem with centralized search engine and SEO tomfoolery no ?
-
rozzin
Does it? I'm actually not seeing _a_ problem there, let alone "the" problem....

Ok, reword that. That link triggers my knee-jerk repulsion for the centralised, business-oriented internet

It just reads to me like "the key to being a successful writer something people want to read and then getting it to an audience of the people who want to read it and then tell the world about it for you". So..., OK...?✎ -

I guess if _the rest of the writer's site_ is just a collection of scams or something, then that'd be more like "first you need a HOOK, and then you REEL THE SUCKERS IN!"..., and I can see _that_ as "problematic" pretty easily....

To me it reads more like "Find some spammy blog post which has a lot of hits. Rip-off the content, add some extra stuff which makes it better (better seems questionable given the example of extending lists of the type '50 healthy snack ideas' to '100 healthy snack ideas'). Then contact sites with similar content and ask them to link to your "improved" spam-post" But that's also my aversion to those kinds of posts which is biasing how I'm reading it.

I guess. It sounds like "the problem" in that case is actually the big group of people who like reading the sort of things that you hate π

I think I would feel differently if those kinds of posts were on static websites without any user tracking, made by individuals just for fun. Like people directly sharing their healthy snack ideas instead of going through this huge corporate tracking machine which doesn't seem to add much value.

I mean..., I'm there with youβall of my favorite movies have ratings like "30% approval, D-" from popular reviewers and audiences π

I think we're totally OT for this MUC, is there a more appropriate one?

You're right on that one, I think: xmpp:conversations-offtopic-reloaded@conference.trashserver.net?join
