XMPP Service Operators - 2022-03-22

Hi everybody

It's been two days by now I am trying to find out how to make a newws channel on an xmpp server

I used conversations to start a (so called) channel

But the problem is that every body can write to it

I think you asked this question some time ago?

It will be a news channel like those in telegram

I have both pidgin and gajim now

Running in a debian machine

I could not find out the property that sets the write capability

I am running debian inside my android. I installed gajim and pidgin to explore the channels capabilities

I am familiar with these two clients

Should i try dino for more options?

No, the options come from the server

Prosody doesn't have such an option iirc

I just fixed the "moderated" thing in conversations, and it is ok now

I found no new setting in gajim actually

Do you have any screenshot of gajim setting for the muc ?

I still need to refine the settings before i start testing the news channel

I reelly long forward to having a telegram alternative for news channels

Telegram can be inaccessible sometimes, that is exactly when people need the news more

Meybe we have some misunderstanding

u can set hats from gajim but it hangs up processing the stanza

Prosody 0.12 also supports hats, but there isn't an option to enable/disable it in the room config

I am a client side

The hats XEP is still in need of some love

xmppnewsmaker, the settings may be slightly different because the server you chose is running different software, but the same functionality is there

hola comrades! (sry for my pure english) im not an XMPP admin, but want to discuss one thing some servers using captcha on registration, and some uses g**gle captcha, someone uses self written, why there's still doesn't exist standardized API or captcha to register without web, right in client?

myjabber1337: there is a standardized api for captchas in the client, but it's not implemented by all clients

also captchas suck.

and spammers got around captchas in the past.

and there are so many servers without, that spammers will just spam you and your usersfrom an open-registration server.

I assume the idea is "if I can cut down on the number of spammers using my server, I can cut down on the rate of complains I personally need to handle about spammy users on my server, and maybe even cut down on how much storage and throughput I need to pay for".....
