  4. Nick E.H.

Hello. Hope all is well. I have a friend who's trying to connect with me through the client Pidgin. I see from my end and his end that his account is not authorized. Need to know what me must do to connect.

  5. Nick E.H.

My username is in the form xxxxxx@pidginchat.com/ (XMPP).

  6. Licaon_Kter

Nick E.H.: can you use a currently developed client, like Gajim or Dino instead?

  7. Nick E.H.

I haven't tried tried those before, Licaon.

  8. Licaon_Kter

Pidgin is like 4-5 years old so things might be broken...

  9. Licaon_Kter

Not authorized...who sees that message and where?

  10. Nick E.H.

I saw info. about Dino on prism-break.org (unable to access this site lately. Don't know why.)I just never tried out the client.

  11. Nick E.H.

Both my friend and I see it on both his end and mine.

  12. Nick E.H.

I think that only his account is not authorized.

  13. Licaon_Kter

Nick E.H.: not authorized usually means that the account does not exist, iirc

  14. Nick E.H.

    What's "iirc"?

  15. Licaon_Kter

IIRC is If I Recall Correctly :),

  16. Licaon_Kter

IIRC is 'If I Recall Correctly' :),

  17. Nick E.H.

    Ok.

  18. Licaon_Kter

Try to get dino.im or Gajim 1.3 and make test accounts on conversations.im so you see a working client and server Then you can look at your clients and servers to judge what's the issue.

  19. Nick E.H.

Licaon. Ok. My friend and I both set up accounts. We haven't been able to connect.

  20. Licaon_Kter

Note that conversations.im accounts are free for the first 6 months only, then one gotta pay to maintain the service

  21. Nick E.H.

    That's through Pidgin.

  22. Licaon_Kter

Unfortunately Pidgin got the marketing in the past as a client...so many get the same guides recommending it...but it's not up to date anymore hence it might leave a bad impression on xmpp...

  23. Nick E.H.

    Ok.

  24. Licaon_Kter

Which OS do you two use?

  25. Nick E.H.

I use Linux Mint. He uses Debian.

  26. Licaon_Kter

Dino nightly builds should cover you both, with Audio/Video calls too ;)

  27. mjk

Nick E.H.: is your friend on pidginchat too? That server doesn't federate, as far as I know

  28. Nick E.H.

    Yes.

  29. Nick E.H.

This is where we both started from: https://www.pidgin.im/about/pidginchat/ .

  34. mjk

    > not authorized Could this be about presence subscription tho?

  35. Nick E.H.

    Ok.

  36. Nick E.H.

Licaon Licaon_Kter . If you can tell me about what's going on with prism-break, I'd like to know.

  37. Licaon_Kter

We don't know, also kinda skeptic on various `privacysitename.tld` that pop up after prism and whatnot

  38. Nick E.H.

I see that I don't have permission to use the site. I used to be be able to visit the site before without any problems. If you know any alternative sites to this one, let me know please.

  39. Menel

    No permission for what site?

  40. Nick E.H.

    For this site: prism-break.org .

  41. Menel

Ah seems down.. Well.. Don't think we miss much there..

  42. Nick E.H.

Any alternative sites to this one?

  43. mjk

It redirects to https://projects.gitlab.io/auth?domain=http://prism-break.org Look at privacyguides maybe, Nick E.H.

  44. Menel

We don't even know what this one was about.. This is the xmpp server operator chat..

  45. Nick E.H.

Understood. Thanks to everyone who helped here. Bye.

  46. mjk

    Also, btw there's xmpp:privacyandsecurity@muc.nixnet.services?join

  49. Nick E.H.

    Ok. Thanks.

Licaon_Kter: I think Pidgin is a few more than 5 years behind, isn't it? More like... 10? Weird that they bother maintaining a public XMPP service if they're not bothering bothering to actually keep up with the XMPP protocol support in Pidgin....
