Hello, I use YUNO Host to self-host. YUNO Host has a built-in XMPP server. I have never really used XMPP before, and I have few questions.
-
asdeea
How does XMPP works? Are all the messages stored on the server, or are they deleted when the other person receives the messages?
-
Licaon_Kter
asdeea: stored and forwarded, yes Deleted? Might depend on setup. They might not, unless you setup them to be, say after some days.
-
asdeea
I want to use XMPP, but at the same time I don't want it to consume all the available free space on my server, only a few GBs are left.
-
Licaon_Kter
Depends on how many users you'll have, messages don't use that much space.

Files might use up more, but say 10Gb might cover 30 days for 20 users, if you limit upload size to 100Mb. From experience.
-
asdeea
Is there a way to delete files, messages, etc from the server?
-
Licaon_Kter
> How can I change the setup? Yunohost uses Metronome, right? Maybe Maranda can point you to some manual. > I'm the only user on my server. So even less space used. Do get some friends over...so you're not lonely :)
-
Ksenia
Imagine needing friends. Pathetic normie.
-
Licaon_Kter
> Is there a way to delete files You can delete them manually too, but maybe your server has some fancy setup to autodelete after a while. > messages, etc from the server? This needs some commands, again, see manual

Ksenia: ಠ_ಠ

Ksenia
> Is there a way to delete files, messages, etc from the server? Depends on your server software. Use a search engine. 🐒
-
asdeea
YUNO Host is based on Debian 10
-
Licaon_Kter
asdeea: that's the OS
-
asdeea
Which manual am I searching for?
-
Licaon_Kter
The xmpp server software is some version of Metronome
-
Licaon_Kter
Eg. https://github.com/maranda/metronome
-
Licaon_Kter
You'd first need to find out which version exactly, it's helpful.
-
asdeea
v 3.14.5 of Metronome
-
Licaon_Kter
It says Prosody here: https://yunohost.org/en/apps?q=%2Fapps But you know what you've installed :)
-
asdeea
Prosody is an app which you can install, Metronome comes by default with YUNO Host
-
Martin
> Prosody is an app which you can install, Metronome comes by default with YUNO Host Prosody is an app? 😂
-
Licaon_Kter
Oh, was reading as "everything" is an app but whatever :))

Thanks!

Ksenia
Do not feed autists.
-
myjabber1337
also, another question is it possible to storage data in IPFS compatible with XMPP server?
-
Ksenia
Compatible in what way?
-
myjabber1337
i mean as regularly XMPP host works, showing message history/media/vcards and another data
-
Maranda
asdeea: by default in YuNoHost Metronome uses the LDAP storage for most things
-
Maranda
So there's not much files laying around you can wipe
-
Licaon_Kter
Maranda: but the server can clean by itself?
-
Ksenia
> i mean as regularly XMPP host works, showing message history/media/vcards and another data XMPP requires the server to send that data. The server can use IPFS as a backend, of course.
-
Ksenia
What do you intend to gain with that?
-
Maranda
Licaon_Kter: yes
-
Ksenia
> Maranda: but the server can clean by itself? Yes. It is not autistic.
-
ij
Ksenia, what do you have all the time with autists/autistic?
-
Ksenia
ij: Are you one?

If you are @ksenia then that's why. Please refrain from the type of messages you posted today.
-
karim
fortunately I am not. I guess I found a bug then. thanks
-
ralphm
Good. In that case the message should read that that other user got banned.
