A bit late but I was reading March's newsletter and https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0038.html has been obsoleted. Does that mean that "smilies" of yore are gone? Like all the different icon packs in PSI?

Menel
What is "smilies of yore"? I don't use psi. But certainly you still can post Smiley's? For me that xep look like it was one of the dawn of jabber and now there are a bunch of better suited xeps that could be used to deliver small binarys like stickers...

Andy Hiscock
Hi there, is this the right place to ask for support on running my own XMPP server?
-
Licaon_Kter
Andy Hiscock: maybe, usually the server software support group is better
-
Licaon_Kter
Which one do you use? Openfire? Tigase? Jackal?
-
Andy Hiscock
OK. Well I'll ive it a go here first. Ive just got my prosody server running and woking fine, when will it federate with other servers?
-
Andy Hiscock
It seems to be isolated at the moment with no one registered on other servers being able to see it
-
Licaon_Kter
They need to have a reason to contact it, say if your users adds a contact from their server.
-
Licaon_Kter
When users from different servers talk, a federation is born :)
-
Andy Hiscock
yeah. If someone regerstered on server A want to add me, regered on server B tries to add me it says they appear to send the invite to me but I never get it
-
Licaon_Kter
Andy Hiscock: right, so better go and ask here: xmpp:prosody@conference.prosody.im?join Have a copy of your config at hand to share, no personal stuff inside of course :)
-
Andy Hiscock
thanks ;)
-
Andy Hiscock
I'll get there in the end. thanks

Andy Hiscock: try a direct message instead, the sending side will likely see the error in their client
