indeed it's not real clustering but replication. I've never tested their solution, so I can't say anything about the hackishness :)

Meanwhile MySQL used to default to the MyISAM engine and was utter garbage ... Why is anyone surprised that PostgreSQL became so popular in open source?

agates: used to is the Key because the default now is InnoDB
