who had experience of XMPP-hosting on routers? which platform is more compatible? i mean, OpenWRT/DD-WRT or RouterOS? do i need to compile server from source directly on router or some complete binaries already exist?

I know people have built and ran Prosody on OpenWRT and such

Not familiar with RouterOS. If it's vaguely POSIX compatible then it's probably possible, but you're probably on your own if you get further from regular Linux or *BSD

You can't host anything on ROS you could virtualize some appliance like OpenWRT but that stack was soon deprecated

And RouterOS runs atop of the Linux Kernel but otherwise is completely locked down✎ -
